[without] permission during the three [private] times. He also instructed him to order those among themโwhether free or slave, and even if they have not yet reached puberty, whether male or femaleโto seek permission during those three times.
14817 - โAli ibn al-Hasan al-Hisinjani narrated to us, Musaddad reported to us, Yazid ibn Zurayโ reported to us, Yunus reported to us, from al-Hasan regarding this verse: "Let those whom your right hands possess ask permission of you," up to His saying: "Beyond that [time], they are in constant attendance upon you." He said: If one has his servant spend the night with him, that is his permission; but if he does not have him spend the night with him, he must seek permission during these times.
His saying (the Exalted): "[Some of] you upon [others of] you."
14817 - Abu Zurโah narrated to us, Yahya ibn โAbd Allah reported to us, Ibn Lahiโah narrated to me, โAtaโ ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Saโid ibn Jubayr regarding Allahโs saying: "[Some of] you upon [others of] you," during the three private times. Regarding His saying: "Thus," meaning like this. Regarding His saying: "Allah makes clear to you the verses," meaning what has been mentioned regarding seeking permission from children and adult slaves during the three private times. Regarding His saying: "And Allah is Knowing, Wise," meaning the ruling of what was mentioned in this verse. His saying (the Exalted): "And when the children among you reach puberty." He said: Then He mentioned the free children and applied the [same rule for] slaves to their state, so He said: "And when the children among you reach puberty," meaning the young ones. His saying: "among you puberty," meaning from the free ones among a manโs offspring and relatives.
His saying (the Exalted): "Then let them ask permission."
14818 - My father narrated to us, โAbdah ibn Sulayman reported to us, Ibn al-Mubarak informed us, โAbd al-Malik informed us, from โAtaโ who said: I had daughters of a brother of mine under my care, so I came to Ibn โAbbas and said: Should I seek permission to enter upon them? He said: Yes, seek permission. I said: They are merely like my own daughters, and they are with me in my house. When I asked him again, he said: Would you like to see one of them naked? I said: No. He said: A woman might take off her clothes in her house. He said: So I sought permission to enter upon them, and they sat down weeping. I said: What is my fault? I have been commanded to do this. โAbd al-Malik said: โAtaโ was asked about a man who was with his mother in one house; should he seek permission to enter upon her? He said: Yes.
14819 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Muโawiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from โAli ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn โAbbas who said: As for one who has reached puberty, he may not enter upon a man and his family except...
