14901 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn al-Hasan reported to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim reported to us, Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf reported to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: "So when you enter houses, greet one another," he says: When some of you enter upon others, the one entering [greets] the one being entered upon.

14902 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid reported to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' reported to us, Sa'id reported to us, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "So when you enter houses, greet one another," [meaning] when you enter a house in which there is no one, say: "Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah," for it was commanded that this be done. And he informed us that the angels respond to him.

14903 - My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn 'Ubayd Allah reported to us, Ibn al-Mubarak reported to us, from Ma'mar, from al-Hasan: "Greet one another," meaning let some of you greet others, like His saying: "And do not kill yourselves."

14904 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh reported to us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd regarding the saying of Allah: "So when you enter houses, greet one another," he said: When a Muslim enters upon a Muslim, he greets him, similar to His saying: "And do not kill yourselves," which only means: Do not kill your Muslim brother. And regarding the saying of Allah: "Then you are those [same ones who] are killing one another [your own people]," he said: Some of you kill others, [referring to] Qurayzah and al-Nadir. And regarding His saying, the Almighty: "He has made for you from yourselves spouses," how could my spouse be from myself? It only means: He has made for you spouses from the Children of Adam and did not make them from camels or cattle, and everything in the Qur'an is like this.

His saying, the Almighty: "a greeting from Allah"

14905 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying "a greeting from Allah," and it is the Peace (al-Salam), because it is one of the names of Allah and it is the greeting of the people of Paradise. And similar to that has been narrated from Muqatil ibn Hayyan.

14906 - My father narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah ibn Sa'd, brother of Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim ibn Sa'd, reported to us, my uncle reported to us, my father reported to us, from Ibn Ishaq, Dawud ibn Husayn narrated to me, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who used to say: I did not take the Tashahhud except from the Book of Allah. I heard Allah saying: "So when you enter houses, greet one another, a greeting from Allah, blessed." So the Tashahhud in the prayer is: "The greetings, the blessed, the pure are for Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah," then he invokes for himself and performs the Taslim.
