Surah al-Furqan
25 In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
His saying, the Almighty: "Blessed is He."
14947 - Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-'Ala' reported to us, 'Uthman ibn Sa'id al-Zayyat reported to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, Abu Rawq reported to us, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas who said: "Blessed" (Tabaraka) is derived from the form tafa'ala from al-barakah (blessing). Similar to this has been narrated from Abu Malik al-Ghifari(1).
His saying, the Almighty: "Who sent down the Furqan."
14948 - My father narrated to us, 'Abdah reported to us, 'Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak informed us, Safwan ibn 'Amr informed us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Jubayr ibn Nufayr narrated to me from his father who said: We sat with al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad one day and he said: The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was sent during a period of ignorance (Jahiliyyah) where they did not see any religion better than the worship of idols. So he came with a Furqan (Criterion) that distinguished between truth and falsehood and distinguished between a father and his son, until a man would see his father, his son, or his brother as a disbeliever, for Allah had opened the lock of his heart to faith; he would know that if he were to perish, he would enter the Fire, and he would not be pleased while he knew that his loved one was in the Fire. And this is that which Allah said: "Those who say, 'Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes'" (the verse)(2).
14949 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Talid ibn Sulayman reported to us from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "sent down the Furqan," he said: It is the final verses of Surah al-Baqarah, from a treasure beneath the Throne.
14950 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki reported to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far reported to us from his father, from al-Rabi' regarding His saying: "sent down the Furqan," he said: The Furqan distinguished between truth and falsehood.
14951 - Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah reported to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Hisham reported to us, Sufyan reported to us from a man, from Mujahid who said: It was only named al-Furqan because it distinguished between truth and falsehood.
