His saying, the Almighty: "Blessed is He who, if He willed, could have given you something better than that."

14991 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Abu Nu'aym reported to us, from Sufyan, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Khaythamah, who said: It was said to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "We will give you the treasures of the earth and its keys, which we have not given to anyone before you, and that will not diminish your status before Allah at all." He replied: "Gather them for me in the Hereafter." So Allah, Mighty and Majestic is He, said: "Blessed is He who, if He willed, could have given you something better than that—gardens [the verse]."

14992 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported to us, Warqa' reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "If He willed, could have given you something better than that," i.e., than what they claimed.

14993 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas informed us, Yazid reported to us, Sa'id reported to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Blessed is He who, if He willed, could have given you something better than that," i.e., than what the disbelievers claimed regarding the treasure and the garden, [He could give you] gardens through which rivers flow.

14994 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freed slave of the Banu Hashim, narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr Zunayj reported to us, Salamah ibn al-Fadl reported to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: Then He said: "Blessed is He who, if He willed, could have given you something better than that"—than that you should walk in the marketplaces and seek livelihood just as people seek it—"gardens through which rivers flow, and He would give you palaces."

His saying, the Almighty: "Gardens."

14995 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported to us, Warqa' reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "Gardens through which rivers flow," he said: Orchards. Its interpretation has preceded more than once.

His saying, the Almighty: "And He would give you palaces."

14996 - Through the same chain [as above] from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "And He would give you palaces," he said: Built, constructed houses. The Quraysh used to consider any house of stone a palace, whatever it may be.

14997 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali reported to us, 'Amir reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And He would give you palaces," he said: Allah has prepared for him in the Hereafter gardens and palaces.
