- From Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And it is forbidden to a town that We have destroyed," he said: "Its destruction is inevitable." He said: "[They] mentioned that they will not return," he said: "To the worldly life."
- From Ibn 'Abbas that he used to read: "And it is binding (wa hurruma) upon a town that We have destroyed that they shall not return," as He said: "Have they not seen how many generations We destroyed before them, that they will not return to them?"
- From 'Ikrimah, regarding "wa hurruma (and it is binding)," he said: "It is binding in the Abyssinian language."

His saying, the Almighty: "From every elevation they will descend."
- From Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "From every elevation (hadab)," he said: "[High] ground." "They will descend (yansilun)," he said: "They will come forth."
- By way of Khalid ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Harmalah, from Hudhayfah, who said: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) delivered a sermon while his finger was bandaged due to a scorpion sting, and he said: 'You say that you have no enemy, and you will continue to fight an enemy until Gog and Magog come, broad-faced, small-eyed, with wide, cracked lips, coming forth from every elevation, as if their faces were leather-covered shields.'"
- From 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As, who said: "There has never been since the world began, at the turn of a hundred years, but that at the turn of the century there was an affair." He said: "Gog and Magog will be released, and they are as Allah said: 'From every elevation they will descend.' Their vanguard will arrive at a flowing river and drink it all until not a drop remains. Then their rearguard will pass by and say: 'There used to be water here once.' They will corrupt the earth and besiege the believers in the city of Iliya (Jerusalem), and they will say: 'There remains no one on earth except that we have slaughtered them... come, let us shoot at those in the heaven.' So they will shoot into the heaven, and their arrows will return to them with blood on their tips."
