"I will not eat! Until you bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." Then Umayyah ibn Khalaf met him and said, "Have you apostatized?" He replied, "I am your brother, you know me, but I had prepared food and he refused to eat until I said that, so I said it, not from my own self."
15095 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Musaffa reported to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Hafs reported to us, from Hushaym, from Abu Balj, from ‘Amr ibn Maymun regarding His saying: "And the day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands," he said: It was revealed concerning ‘Uqbah ibn Abi Mu‘ayt and Ubayy ibn Khalaf. He said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered upon ‘Uqbah for a need, and he had prepared food for the people. He said: He invited the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to his food, and he (the Prophet) said: "You know that I do not eat your food, and you are not of my religion." He said: "No, until you accept Islam." He said: So he accepted Islam, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sat and ate. The news reached Ubayy ibn Khalaf, so he came to ‘Uqbah and mentioned to him what he had done. ‘Uqbah said to him: "Do you think that someone like Muhammad enters my house, and there is food, then he leaves without eating?" Ubayy said: "Then my face is forbidden to yours until you return to him, spit in his face, and renounce what you have entered into." He said: So he came and did that, and the Quran was revealed: "And the day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands," he said: ‘Uqbah.
15096 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray‘ reported to us, Sa‘id reported to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "And the day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands," it was mentioned to us that ‘Uqbah ibn Abi Mu‘ayt used to frequent the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Then Umayyah ibn Khalaf, who was a friend of his, met him and did not cease until he diverted him and hindered him from frequenting the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed concerning them both: "And the day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands."
15097 - Muhammad ibn Sa‘d al-‘Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "And the day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands," he said: It is Ubayy ibn Khalaf, who used to attend to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), but ‘Uqbah ibn Abi Mu‘ayt rebuked him.
15098 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, he said: I found in the book of my grandfather, Yahya ibn al-Durays, he said: Sufyan said regarding His saying: "The day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands," he said: He eats his hand, then it regrows.
15099 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid al-Narsi informed us, Abu Fatimah Miskin reported to us, he said: I heard Hushaym say regarding the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "And the day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands," he said: He eats his palm out of remorse until it reaches his shoulder, yet he does not feel its sensation."
لَا آكُلُ؟!
