His saying (Mighty and Majestic is He): "And the people of Noah, when they denied the messengers, We drowned them."
15157 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah reported to us, Abu Zuhayr reported to us, from a man among his companions, he said: It has reached me that the people of Noah lived in that drowning for forty days.
15168 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Ibn Salamah reported to us, Salamah reported to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to me, he said: The earth and what was upon it drowned, and the water reached the limit it was to reach. The water did not exceed the height of a knee. The duration of the water when Allah sent it was one hundred and fifty days, as the people of the Torah claim. So the duration between the time Allah sent the flood and the time the water subsided was six months and ten nights. When Allah willed to withhold that, He sent a wind upon the face of the water, so the water grew still, and the springs of the great deep and the gates of heaven were hardened, and the water began to decrease, overflow, and recede. The settling of the Ark upon al-Judi, according to what the people of the Torah claim, was in the seventh month, on the seventeenth night that had passed of it, on the first day of the tenth month. The tops of the mountains were exposed. When forty days had passed after that, Noah opened the opening of the Ark which he had made. Then he sent the raven to see for him what the water had done, but it did not return. Then he sent the dove, but it returned to him and did not find a place for its feet. He reached out his hand to the dove, took it, and brought it in. Then it remained for seven days, and he sent it to see for him. It returned to him at evening time, and in its beak was an olive leaf. So Noah knew that the water had receded from the face of the earth. Then it remained for seven days and he sent it, and it did not return to him, so Noah knew that the earth had emerged.
