15172 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah reported to us, Salamah ibn al-Fadl reported to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: When Allah destroyed 'Ad and its matter came to an end, Thamud thrived after them. They were made successors in the land, where they flourished and spread. Then they became arrogant against Allah. When their corruption became apparent and they worshipped others besides Allah, Allah sent Salih to them. They were an Arab people, and he was among the most moderate of them in lineage and the most noble of them in standing as a messenger. Their settlements were from al-Hijr to Tarakh, which is Wadi al-Qura, and between these was eighteen miles in the region between Hijaz and Syria. Allah sent to them a young boy, and he called them to Allah until he became grey-haired and old, and none followed him from them except a few who were oppressed.

15174 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah ibn Musa reported to us, from Isra'il, from Abu Yahya, from Mujahid: "And the people of the Rass," he said: The Rass is a well.

15175 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Ibn Yaman reported to us, from Sufyan, from a man, from 'Ikrimah, he said: "And the people of the Rass," they buried their prophet in a well.

15176 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray' reported to us, Sa'id reported to us, from Qatadah: "And the people of the Rass," he said: It was narrated to me that the people of the Rass were a people of farming and wells that they possessed.

And it was narrated from Ja'far ibn Muhammad that he said: Every river and well is a Rass.

His saying (Mighty and Majestic is He): "And many generations between them."
