The second interpretation:
15178 - My father narrated to us, Adam ibn Abi Iyas al-'Asqalani reported to us, Hammad ibn Salamah reported to us, from Abu Muhammad, from Zurarah ibn Awfa, who said: A generation (qarn) is one hundred and twenty years. The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was sent in a generation, the last of whom was Yazid ibn Mu'awiyah.
The third interpretation:
15179 - My father narrated to us, Abu al-Jumahir reported to us, Sa'id ibn Bashir reported to us, from Qatadah, who said: A generation is seventy years.
The fourth interpretation:
15180 - My father narrated to us, Abu Bishr Isma'il ibn Maslamah ibn Qa'nab reported to us, Abu 'Ubaydah al-Naji reported to us, from al-Hasan al-Basri, who said: A generation is sixty years.
The fifth interpretation:
15181 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Hafs reported to us, from al-Hajjaj, from al-Hakam, from Ibrahim, who said: A generation is forty years.
The sixth interpretation:
15182 - My father narrated to us, Muslim ibn Ibrahim reported to us, Muhammad ibn 'Uqbah al-Rafi'i reported to us, Malik ibn Dinar reported to us, who said: I asked al-Hasan about the generation, and he said: Twenty years.
The seventh interpretation:
15183 - My father narrated to us, al-Rabi' Nafi' al-Hubla in Tarsus reported to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salam reported to us, from his brother Zayd ibn Salam, that he heard Abu Salam hearing Abu Umamah al-Bahili say that a man said: "O Messenger of Allah, was Adam a prophet?" He said: "Yes, spoken to [by Allah]." He asked: "How much was between him and Noah?" He said: "Ten generations." He asked: "How much was between Noah and Abraham?" He said: "Ten generations."
15184 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn 'Imran reported to us, Abu Dawud reported to us, Hammam reported to us, from Qatadah, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: There were ten generations between Adam and Noah, each community of them upon a law of the truth. And something similar was narrated from 'Ikrimah.
