Translation · EN

His saying, the Exalted: "And they have certainly passed by the village which was showered with a rain of evil."

15192 - Al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazid al-Bayruti informed us by way of recitation, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb ibn Shabur informed me, 'Uthman ibn 'Ata' informed me, from his father: "As for the village which was showered with a rain of evil, it is the village of Lot."

15193 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, al-Muqaddami reported to us, Abu Ma'shar al-Bara' reported to us, Abu Raja' reported to us, who said: I heard al-Hasan recite: "And they have certainly passed by the village which was showered with a rain of evil." He said: "It is, by Allah, between the Levant and Medina."

His saying, the Exalted: "Have they not been seeing it?" to the end of the verse.

15194 - My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn Khalid reported to us, Shu'ayb ibn Ishaq reported to us, Sa'id reported to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "[They] do not hope" [i.e., they do not fear].

15195 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray' reported to us, Sa'id reported to us, from Qatadah: "[They] do not hope for a resurrection" [i.e., neither a resurrection nor an account].

His saying, the Exalted: "And when they see you, they take you not except in mockery."

15196 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr Zunayj reported to us, Salamah reported to us, who said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: Abu Jahl said one day, while mocking the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and what he brought of the truth: "O assembly of Quraysh, Muhammad claims that the soldiers of Allah who will punish you in the Fire and detain you therein are nineteen, while you are the most numerous of people in count and multitude. Can one hundred men from among you not overcome one man from among them?" So Allah the Almighty and Majestic revealed regarding that from His saying: "And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except as angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve" to the end of the story.

His saying, the Exalted: "He almost led us astray from our gods, had we not been steadfast in [worship of] them."

15197 - Muhammad narrated to us, Muhammad reported to us, Salamah reported to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq who said: Yahya ibn 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr informed me, from his father 'Urwah, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As, who said: I said to him, "How much of the harm you witnessed did Quraysh inflict upon the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) during what they made manifest of their enmity?" He replied: "I was present with them when their nobles gathered one day in the Hijr and mentioned...
