with a slight withdrawal, until when the sun passes the meridian, it is in decrease until the sun sets. He said: "The day is twelve hours. The first hour is from the rising of the dawn until you see the rays of the sun. Then the second hour is when you see the rays of the sun until the bright morning light appears; at that point, nothing of its rays remains and its color becomes clear." He said: "According to what we have heard, if you are on flat land or in a place where nothing stands between you and it, and when it is at the height of two spears as seen by your eye, that is the first of the Duha (forenoon) and the first hour of the hours of the Duha. Then, after that, there are two hours of Duha, then the sixth hour is when it is at the meridian. When the sun passes from the meridian, that is the hour of the Dhuhr (noon) prayer, which is that of which Allah said: 'Establish the prayer at the decline of the sun.' Then, after that, there are two hours of the 'Ashiyy (late afternoon), and the tenth hour is the appointed time for the 'Asr (afternoon) prayer." He said: "And these are the Al-Asal (late afternoons)." Allah the Exalted and Majestic said: "And exalt Him morning and afternoon." Then, after that, are two hours until the night.

His saying, the Exalted: "And it is He who made the night for you as a garment, and sleep as a rest, and made the day as a resurrection."

15234 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported to us, Warqa' reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "and made the day as a resurrection," it is a time when people are resurrected (spread out) during it.

15235 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray' reported to us, Sa'id reported to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And it is He who made the night for you as a garment, and sleep as a rest, and made the day as a resurrection," for their livelihoods, their needs, and their activities.

His saying, the Exalted: "And it is He who sends the winds."

15236 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "sends the winds," he said: "Allah, Exalted and Majestic, sends the winds, and they bring the clouds from between the two horizons—the two ends of the heaven and the earth where they meet—and He brings it forth from there. Then He spreads it and unfolds it in the sky as He wills, then He opens the gates of the heaven for the water to pour upon the clouds, then the clouds rain after that."
