The second interpretation:

15265 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Munib reported to us, Abu Mu'adh reported to us, from 'Ubayd ibn Sulayman, from al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "a barrier," he said: The barrier between them is the duration between the world and the Hereafter.

The third interpretation:

15266 - Abu 'Abd Allah al-Tihrani informed us in what he wrote to me, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "a barrier," he said: The barrier is the boundary.

The fourth interpretation:

15267 - Al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah al-Harawi reported to us, Hajjaj reported to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujahid regarding: "a barrier," [meaning] a separation that no one sees; the fresh [water] does not mix with the sea, nor does the sea of Byzantium (Rome) and Persia mix, and the sea of Byzantium is salty.

Ibn Jurayj said: I have not found any fresh sea except the fresh rivers which flow into it between them like a white thread, and when they return, nothing from the sea returns along their path. They claim the Nile pours into the sea, but I did not find in Mujahid’s statement "the fresh with the sea," so I did not find the fresh [water] except the rivers.

15268 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Hani' ibn Sa'id reported to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "a forbidden partition," he said: He placed between them a barrier by His command, so the salty [water] does not flow onto the fresh, nor does the fresh [water] onto the salty.

15269 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "and a forbidden partition," he says: He separated one of them from the other by His command and His decree; it is like His saying: "And He placed between the two seas a barrier."

15270 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported to us, Warqa' reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "a forbidden partition," the sea does not mix with the fresh.

It was also narrated from Mujahid regarding His saying: "a forbidden partition," the sea does not mix with the fresh.

It was also narrated from Qatadah that he said: He prevented the fresh from the salty and the salty from the fresh.
