His saying, the Almighty: "Khilfah" (alternating).
15319 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith reported to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And it is He who has made the night and the day as alternating," he said: "White and black."
15320 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Usamah reported to us, from Idris, from al-Hakam, from Mujahid, regarding: "And it is He who has made the night and the day as alternating," he said: "The blackness of the night from the whiteness of the day."
15321 - Musa ibn Harun al-Tusi informed us, in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Marwazi reported to us, Shayban reported to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And it is He who has made the night and the day as alternating," he said: "They are different; this one is black and this one is white, and the believer may forget at night and remember by day, and forget by day and remember at night."
15322 - Sulayman ibn Dawud al-Qazzaz narrated to us, Abu Dawud reported to us, Abu Hurrah reported to us, from al-Hasan that 'Umar lengthened the Duha prayer, so it was said to him: "You have done something today that you did not used to do." He replied: "Some of my regular recitation remained, and I loved to complete or perform it," and he recited this verse: "[He] has made the night and the day as alternating for whoever desires to remember or desires gratitude."
15323 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih informed me, from Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "[He] has made the night and the day as alternating," he says: "Whoever missed doing something at night can make it up during the day, or [whoever missed it] from the day can make it up at night."
15324 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr reported to us, Ibn Lahi'ah informed me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar reported to us, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "And it is He who has made the night and the day as alternating for whoever desires to remember or desires gratitude," he says: "He made the night a substitute for the day, and the day a substitute for the night, so that whoever neglected [a good deed] in his work may perform it [in the other]."
15325 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, 'Abdah and Abu 'Abd al-Rahman al-Harithi reported to us, from Juwaybir, from Abu Sahl, from al-Hasan: "[He] has made the night and the day as alternating for whoever desires to remember or desires gratitude," he said: "Whoever is not able to perform work by day, let him perform it by night; and whoever is not able to perform work by night, let him perform it by day. In each of them is a substitute for the other."

١٥٣١٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا مِنْجَابُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ أَنْبَأَ بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلَهُ: وَهُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ خِلْفَةً قَالَ أَبْيَضَ وَأَسْوَدَ.
١٥٣٢٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ إِدْرِيسَ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ: الَّذِي جَعَلَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ خِلْفَةً قَالَ: سَوَادَ اللَّيْلِ مِنْ بَيَاضِ النَّهَارِ.
١٥٣٢١ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ الطُّوسِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ، ثنا شَيْبَانُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: وَهُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ خِلْفَةً قَالَ مُخْتَلِفَانِ هَذَا أَسْوَدُ وَهَذَا أَبْيَضُ وَأنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ قَدْ يَنْسَى بِاللَّيْلِ وَيَذَّكَرُ بِالنَّهَارِ وَيَنْسَى بِالنَّهَارِ وَيَذَّكَرُ بِاللَّيْلِ «١» .
١٥٣٢٢ - حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْقَزَّازُ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا أَبُو حُرَّةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ أَنَّ عُمَرَ أَطَالَ صَلاةَ الضُّحَى فَقِيلَ لَهُ صَنَعْتَ الْيَوْمَ شَيْئًا لَمْ تَكُنْ تَصْنَعُهُ فَقَالَ: إِنَّهُ بَقِيَ عَلَيَّ مِنْ وِرْدِي شَيْئًا فَأَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أُتِمَّهُ أَوْ أَقْضِيَهُ وَتَلا هَذِهِ الآيَةَ: جَعَلَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ خِلْفَةً لِمَنْ أراد أن يذكر أو أَرَادَ شُكُورًا
١٥٣٢٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ ابْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلَهُ: جَعَلَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ خِلْفَةً يَقُولُ: مَنْ فَاتَهُ شَيْءٌ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ أَنْ يَعْمَلَهُ أَدْرَكَهُ بِالنَّهَارِ أَوْ مِنَ النَّهَارِ أَدْرَكَهُ بِاللَّيْلِ.
١٥٣٢٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، ثنا عَطَاءُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ، عَنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: وَهُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ خِلْفَةً لِمَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَذَّكَّرَ أو أراد شكورا يَقُولُ: جَعَلَ اللَّيْلَ خَلَفًا مِنَ النَّهَارِ وَالنَّهَارَ خَلَفًا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ لِمَنْ فَرَّطَ فِي عَمَلِهِ أَنْ يَقْضِيَهُ.
١٥٣٢٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا عَبْدَةُ وَأَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحَارِثِيُّ، عَنْ جُوَيْبِرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَهْلٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ: جَعَلَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ خِلْفَةً لِمَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَذَّكَّرَ أَوْ أَرَادَ شُكُورًا قَالَ: مَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ أَنْ يَعْمَلَ بِالنَّهَارِ فَلْيَعْمَلْ بِاللَّيْلِ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ أَنْ يَعْمَلَ بِاللَّيْلِ فَلْيَعْمَلْ بِالنَّهَارِ فِي كُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا خَلَفٌ مِنَ الآخَرِ.
