His saying, the Exalted: "And whoever does that"
15406 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah reported to us, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "And whoever does that"—meaning from these three verses—"will face penalty." Regarding His saying: "will face penalty" (yalqa athama), he means his recompense is a penalty (athaman).
His saying, the Exalted: "will face penalty"
15407 - My father narrated to us, Abu al-Jumahir reported to us, Sa'id ibn Bashir reported to us, Qatadah reported to us, from Abu Ayyub, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar: "'Athama"—he said: A valley in Hell. It has been narrated from Mujahid, Sa'id ibn Jubayr in one of the narrations, and 'Ikrimah the same as that.
15408 - al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazid informed us, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb informed us, Sa'id ibn Bashir informed us, that Qatadah narrated to them that "'athama" are valleys in Hell.
15409 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Zanjah and Muhammad ibn 'Ali reported to us, both said: 'Ali ibn al-Hasan reported to us, al-Husayn informed us, from Yazid al-Nahwi, from 'Ikrimah, he narrated to them: "'will face penalty'—valleys in Hell where the adulterers are."
15410 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray' reported to us, Sa'id reported to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And whoever does that will face penalty," meaning: a punishment. We used to be told that it is a valley in Hell.
It has been mentioned to us that Luqman used to say: "O my son, beware of adultery, for its beginning is fear and its end is regret."
15411 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali reported to us, 'Amir ibn al-Furat reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi: "'will face penalty'"—he said: A recompense.
His saying, the Exalted: "The punishment will be doubled for him on the Day of Resurrection"
15412 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray' reported to us, he said: I heard Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "will be doubled for him," meaning: the punishment of the world and the Hereafter.
His saying, the Exalted: "And he will abide"
15413 - My father narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Aslam al-Tarasusi reported to us, Muhammad ibn Sa'id al-Qattan reported to us, from 'Isa ibn Rashid, from Abu 'Awn al-Ansari, that he heard 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz saying: "Every instance in the Qur'an of 'abiding' (khulud) implies that there is no repentance for it."
His saying, the Exalted: "therein"
15414 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah reported to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "And he will abide therein," meaning: in the punishment. And regarding His saying "humiliated" (muhana), he means he will be humiliated therein.
His saying, the Exalted: "Except for those who repent"
15415 - My father narrated to us, Adam al-'Asqalani reported to us, Shu'bah reported to us, from Mansur, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, he said: I asked Ibn 'Abbas about His saying: "And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity" up to His saying: "Except for those who repent." He said: "This was during the Age of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah)."
15416 - My father narrated to us, Adam reported to us, Shu'bah reported to us, from Abu Iyas Mu'awiyah ibn Qurrah, Shahr ibn Hawshab informed me that he heard Ibn 'Abbas saying: "This verse was revealed: 'And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell' after His saying: 'Except for those who repent and believe and do righteous work' by a year."
15417 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Abu Zur'ah reported to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah reported to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, he said: "This verse was revealed: 'And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity'—the verse—concerning the disbelievers of Mecca. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) migrated to Medina, Wahshi, the servant of Tu'aymah ibn 'Adi ibn Nawfal, wrote to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in Medina: 'I have committed polytheism, adultery, and killing'—and he had killed Hamzah ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib on the day of Uhud. He said: 'Is there any repentance for me?' So it was revealed concerning him, and He made an exception: 'Except for those who repent,' meaning: from polytheism."
15418 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi Hammad reported to us, Ibrahim ibn al-Mukhtar and Abu Zuhayr reported to us, from al-Hajjaj, from 'Atiyyah, from Abu Sa'id, he said: "When Wahshi became Muslim, Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, revealed: 'And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity, and do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden, except by right.' Wahshi and his companions said: 'We have committed all of this!' So Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, revealed: 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves'—the verse."

قَولُهُ تَعَالَى: وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ
١٥٤٠٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنُ لَهِيعَةَ حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الآيَاتِ الثَّلاثِ يَلْقَ أَثَامًا وَفِي قوله: يلق أثاما يَعْنِي جَزَاؤُهُ أَثَامٌا.

١٥٤٠٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو الْجُمَاهِرِ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، ثنا قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ: أَثَامًا قَالَ: وَادٍ فِي جَهَنَّمَ- وَرُوِِىِ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ «١» وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فِي إِحْدَى الرِّوَايَاتِ وَعِكْرِمَةَ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ.
١٥٤٠٨ - أَخْبَرَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مَزْيَدٍ أَنْبَأَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ أنبأ سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ أَنَّ قَتَادَةَ حَدَّثَهُمْ أَنّ أَثَامًا أَوْدِيَةٌ فِي جَهَنَّمَ.
١٥٤٠٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَنْجَةَ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالا، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ أنبأ الْحُسَيْنُ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ النَّحْوِيِّ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ حَدَّثَهُمْ: يَلْقَ أَثَامًا أَوْدِيَةٌ فِي جَهَنَّمَ فِيهَا الزُّنَاةُ.
١٥٤١٠ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، ثنا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ يَلْقَ أَثَامًا أَيْ نَكَالا كُنَّا نُحَدَّثُ أَنَّهُ وَادٍ فِي جَهَنَّمَ.
وَقَدْ ذُكِرَ لَنَا أَنَّ لُقْمَانَ كَانَ يَقُولُ: يَا بُنَيَّ إِيَّاكَ وَالزِّنَا فَإِنَّهُ أَوَّلُهُ مَخَافَةٌ وَآخِرُهُ نَدَامَةٌ.
١٥٤١١ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا عَامِرُ بْنُ الْفُرَاتِ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ يَلْقَ أَثَامًا قَالَ: جَزَاءً
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: يُضَاعَفْ لَهُ الْعَذَابُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
١٥٤١٢ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ قَالَ:
سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدًا، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: يُضَاعَفْ لَهُ أَيْ عَذَابُ الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَيَخْلُدْ
