15419 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali reported to us, 'Amir reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, he said: It was revealed regarding the polytheists, [for] they said: "How can you command us, O Muhammad, to follow you while you say that whoever associates partners with Allah, kills, or commits adultery is in the Fire?" So Allah revealed: "Except for those who repent, believe, and do righteous work."
15420 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Kathir al-'Abdi reported to us, Sulayman—meaning his brother—reported to us, from Husayn, from Abu Malik, he said: When this verse was revealed: "And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity"—the verse—some of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "We had associated partners with Allah in the Age of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah) and we had killed." So there was revealed: "Except for those who repent, believe, and do righteous work."
15421 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray' reported to us, Sa'id reported to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Except for those who repent," i.e., from their sins.
15422 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "Except for those who repent, believe, and do righteous work," he said: They are those who repent and then act in obedience to Allah.
His saying, the Exalted: "and believe"
15423 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah reported to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "and believe," i.e., and acknowledge the Oneness (tawhid) of Allah.
15424 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid reported to us, Sa'id informed us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "and believe," i.e., in their Lord. And regarding His saying: "and do righteous work," i.e., in that which is between them and Allah, the Almighty and Majestic.
His saying, the Exalted: "then those"
15425 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya reported to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id regarding the saying of Allah: "then those," i.e., those who have performed what Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, mentioned in this verse.
15426 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "then those—Allah will replace their evil deeds with good deeds," he said: They are the believers.
١٥٤١٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا عَامِرٌ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَالَ: وَنَزَلَتْ فِي الْمُشْرِكِينَ قَالُوا: كَيْفَ تَأْمُرُنَا يَا مُحَمَّدُ أَنْ نَتَّبِعَكَ وَأَنْتَ تَقُولُ إِنَّهُ مَنْ أَشْرَكَ أَوْ قَتَلَ أَوْ زَنَا فهو في النار فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ: إِلا مَنْ تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ عَمَلا صَالِحًا
١٥٤٢٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ يَعْنِى أَخَاهُ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةَ: وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ الْآيَةُ. قَالَ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: قَدْ كُنَّا أَشْرَكْنَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَقَتَلْنَا فَنَزَلَتْ: إِلا مَنْ تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ عَمَلا صَالِحًا
١٥٤٢١ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، ثنا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قوله: إِلا مَنْ تَابَ أَيْ مِنْ ذُنُوبِهِ.
١٥٤٢٢ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْعَوْفِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنِي عَمِّي حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلَهُ: إِلا مَنْ تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ عَمَلا صَالِحًا قَالَ: هُمُ الَّذِينَ يَتُوبُونَ فَيَعْمَلُونَ بِطَاعَةِ اللَّهِ.
قوله تعالى: وَآمَنَ
١٥٤٢٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءٌ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: وَآمَنَ يَعْنِي وَصَدَّقَ بِتَوْحِيدِ اللَّهِ.
١٥٤٢٤ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ أنبأ سعيد، عن قتادة قوله: وآمن أَيْ بِرَبِّهِ وَفِي قَوْلِهِ: وَعَمِلَ عَمَلا صَالِحًا أَيْ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.
قَوْلُهُ تعالى: فَأُولَئِكَ
١٥٤٢٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءٌ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: فَأُولَئِكَ يَعْنِي الَّذِينَ فَعَلُوا مَا ذَكَرَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي هَذِهِ الآيَةُ.
١٥٤٢٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثَنَا أَبُو صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: فَأُولَئِكَ يُبَدِّلُ اللَّهُ سَيِّئَاتِهِمْ حَسَنَاتٍ قَالَ: هُمُ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ.
