15483 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and our offspring comfort to our eyes," he said: They mean those who act in obedience [to Allah], so that our eyes may be comforted by them in this world and the Hereafter.

15484 - Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani narrated to us, Hafs ibn 'Umar informed us, al-Hakam ibn Aban reported to us, from 'Ikrimah regarding His saying: "Grant us from among our wives and our offspring comfort to our eyes," he said: They did not desire by that a companion or beauty, rather they desired that they be obedient.

15485 - 'Ali ibn al-Hasan al-Hisinjani narrated to us, Musaddad reported to us, Yahya reported to us, from Hazm al-Quta'i, he said: I heard Kathir ibn Ziyad say to al-Hasan: O Abu Sa'id, [regarding] the saying of Allah: "Grant us from among our wives and our offspring comfort to our eyes," what is this comfort of the eyes? Is it in the world or in the Hereafter? He said: No, by Allah, rather it is in the world. He said: What is it? He said: It is for Allah to see the believing servant see from his wife, his brother, his child, or his intimate friend, obedience to Allah. No, by Allah, there is nothing more comforting to the eye of a believer than to see a child, a descendant, a brother, or an intimate friend who is obedient to Allah.

His saying, the Exalted: "And make us for the righteous"

15486 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah reported to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "For the righteous," he said: Meaning those who avoid Shirk (polytheism).

His saying, the Exalted: "An example"

15487 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And make us for the righteous an example [Imam]," he says: Leaders of guidance, so that others may be guided by us, and do not make us leaders of misguidance. For He said to the people of felicity: "And We made them leaders [Aimmah] guiding by Our command," and to the people of wretchedness: "And We made them leaders [Aimmah] inviting to the Fire." It was narrated from Abu Salih and 'Abd Allah ibn Shawdhab something similar to that.

15488 - Muhammad ibn Yazid al-Muqri' narrated to us, Sufyan reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "And make us for the righteous an example [Imam]," he said: They are followed and taken as models, when those who come after us follow us.
