15604 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah reported to us, Salamah reported to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to me, [regarding] "What do you advise? Should I kill him?"

His saying: "Defer him and his brother."

15605 - Muhammad ibn 'Ammar narrated to us, Sahl ibn Bakkar reported to us, Abu 'Awanah reported to us, from Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad, from Miqsam, from Ibn 'Abbas: They said, "Defer him and his brother," [meaning:] do not bring him to us and do not let him come near us.

15606 - My father narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Musa reported to us, Hisham ibn Yusuf reported to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from 'Ata' al-Khurasani, from Ibn 'Abbas: They said, "Defer him and his brother," he says: Delay him and his brother.

15607 - My father narrated to us, Hudbah ibn Khalid reported to us, Hammam reported to us, from Qatadah regarding "Defer him and his brother," he said: Detain him and his brother.

His saying: "And send to the cities gatherers."

15608 - Muhammad ibn 'Ammar ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Sahl ibn Bakkar reported to us, Abu 'Awanah reported to us, Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad reported to us, from Miqsam, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And send to the cities gatherers; for this man is indeed a learned sorcerer," so Pharaoh sent gatherers to the cities. The sorcerers used to fear Pharaoh, and when he sent for them, they said: "Your god is in need of you."

15609 - 'Ammar ibn Khalid al-Wasiti narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Husayn and Yazid ibn Harun reported to us, from Asbagh ibn Zayd al-Warraq, from al-Qasim ibn Abi Ayyub, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas who said: They said to him, [the] aide to Pharaoh: "Gather the sorcerers for them, for they are numerous in your land, so that you may overcome their sorcery with their sorcery."

15610 - My father narrated to us, Yusuf ibn 'Adi reported to us, Ibn Abi Za'idah reported to us, from Isma'il ibn Ibrahim ibn Muhajir, from his father, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "In the cities gatherers," he said: [They are] the guards (al-shurtah).

It was also narrated from Mujahid that they are the guards (al-shurtah).

15611 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, regarding "And send to the cities gatherers," he said: Send to the cities gatherers.
