His saying: "That they may bring you every learned sorcerer."
15612 - 'Ammar ibn Khalid narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Husayn and Yazid ibn Harun reported to us—the wording being that of Muhammad—from Asbagh ibn Zayd, from al-Qasim, Sa'id ibn Jubayr narrated to me, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "That they may bring you every learned sorcerer," he said: Every pseudo-scholar sorcerer was gathered for him.
15613 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi regarding "That they may bring you every learned sorcerer," he said: The sorcerers were gathered, and the people were gathered to watch.
15614 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Isa reported to us, Salamah reported to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq regarding "That they may bring you every learned sorcerer," i.e., challenge him with sorcery, perhaps you may find among the sorcerers one who can bring something similar to what he has brought. Moses and Aaron had [already] left his presence when Moses showed him of the power of Allah what he showed him. Pharaoh sent [messengers] throughout his kingdom in his place, and there was not a sorcerer left in his dominion who was not brought.
His saying: "So the sorcerers were gathered for the appointment of a well-known day."
15615 - And by the same chain, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, regarding His saying: "So the sorcerers were gathered for the appointment of a well-known day," it was mentioned to me—and Allah knows best—that fifteen thousand sorcerers were gathered for him.
15616 - My father narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Rafi' reported to us, Jarir reported to us, from 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Rufay', from Abu Sawdah, from Ka'b, who said: Pharaoh's sorcerers were twelve thousand.
His saying: "And it was said to the people, 'Are you going to assemble?'"
15617 - Abu Zur'ah 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi regarding "And it was said to the people, 'Are you going to assemble?'" he says: The people were gathered to watch.
His saying: "That we might follow the sorcerers if they are the winners."
15618 - 'Ammar ibn Khalid al-Wasiti narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Husayn and Yazid ibn Harun reported to us—the wording being that of Muhammad—from Asbagh ibn Zayd al-Warraq, from al-Qasim ibn Abi Ayyub, Sa'id ibn Jubayr narrated to me, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "That we might follow the sorcerers if they are the winners," he said: When they gathered on an open ground, some people said to others, "Come, let us attend this affair and follow the sorcerers if they are the winners," meaning thereby Moses and Aaron, peace be upon them, in mockery of them. Then he mentioned the hadith.
