His saying: Moses said to them, "Throw what you are going to throw."
15624 - 'Ammar ibn Khalid narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Husayn and Yazid ibn Harun reported to us, from Asbagh ibn Zayd, from al-Qasim, Sa'id ibn Jubayr narrated to me, from Ibn 'Abbas who said: The day on which Allah gave Moses victory over Pharaoh and the sorcerers was the day of 'Ashura'. When they gathered on a plateau, some people said to others, "Come, let us attend this matter and follow the sorcerers if they are the victors," meaning by that Moses and Aaron, mocking them. They said, "O Moses," due to their reliance on their sorcery, "either you throw, or we will be the ones who throw." ... "So they threw their ropes and their sticks, and said, 'By the might of Pharaoh, indeed we are the winners.'" Moses saw of their sorcery what caused a fear within himself, so Allah inspired him, "Throw the staff."
His saying: "So they threw their ropes and their sticks."
15625 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi: "So they threw their ropes and their sticks." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with terror.

He said: So Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, said: "You are swearing on My behalf? I have given him respite for forty years."
