15672 - My father narrated to us, Mu'ammal ibn Hisham reported to us, Isma'il ibn 'Ulayyah reported to us, from al-Jurayri, from Abu al-Salil, from Qays ibn 'Abbad who said: He—meaning Moses—struck the sea, and the sea parted.

15673 - Abu Mas'ud al-Jurayri said: They were twelve tribes, and I believe that there was a path for each tribe.

His saying, the Exalted: "And each portion was like a great mountain."

15674 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih reported to us, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Like a great mountain," he says: Like a mountain. It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, Muhammad ibn Ka'b, al-Dahhak, Qatadah, and 'Abdullah ibn 'Ubayd the same.

15675 - My father narrated to us, Ibn Abi 'Umar reported to us, Sufyan reported to us, from Abu Sa'd al-A'war, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas who said: Allah inspired to Moses to strike the sea with his staff. So it parted, and each portion was like a great mountain. He said: He struck it, and it became twelve paths; they were twelve tribes, and for each tribe there was a path.

15676 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi: "And each portion was like a great mountain," he says: Like a great mountain. The Children of Israel entered, and there were twelve paths in the sea, with a tribe in each path. When the paths parted, there were walls between them, so each tribe said: "Our companions have been killed." When Moses saw that, he supplicated to Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, and He made them into arches like the shape of vaults, so that the last of them could see the first of them, until they all exited.

15677 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah reported to us, Salamah reported to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "And each portion was like a great mountain," meaning like a great mountain, on dry land. The Almighty and Majestic says to Moses: "Strike a path for them in the sea, dry, fearing no overtaking, nor are you afraid." When the sea cleared for him into a standing, dry path, Moses proceeded with the Children of Israel through it, and Pharaoh followed him with his troops.
