15678 - al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazid informed us, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb ibn Shabur informed me, 'Uthman ibn 'Ata' informed me, from his father 'Ata' who said: Regarding "like a great mountain," it is the vast space between the two mountains.

His saying, the Exalted: "And We brought near."

15679 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi who said: Then Pharaoh and his companions approached. When Pharaoh looked at the sea parted, he said: "Do you not see the sea? It has parted out of awe of me and opened up for me so that I may overtake my enemies and kill them." That is the saying of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, "azlafna" (and We brought near), meaning: We drew near.

15680 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray', Sa'id reported to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And We brought near there the others," he says: We drew Pharaoh and his soldiers near to the sea.

His saying: "The others."

15681 - al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazid al-Bayruti informed us by reading, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb ibn Shabur reported to us, 'Uthman ibn 'Ata' narrated to me, from his father 'Ata' regarding "and We brought near there the others," meaning: We brought the family of Pharaoh near to the sea. It was narrated from al-Suddi and Qatadah similar to that.

His saying: "And We saved Moses and those with him, all together."

15682 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah reported to us, Shababah reported to us, Yunus ibn Abi Ishaq reported to us, from Abu Ishaq, from 'Amr ibn Maymun, from 'Abdullah that Moses, peace be upon him, when he traveled by night with the Children of Israel, it reached Pharaoh, so he ordered a sheep to be slaughtered and then said: "It shall not be finished being skinned before six hundred thousand of the Copts gather to me." So Moses set out until he reached the sea and said to it: "Part!" The sea said to him: "You have grown arrogant, O Moses! Has it ever parted for any of the children of Adam that I should part for you?" He said: There was a man with Moses on his horse, and that man said to him: "Where have you been commanded to go, O Prophet of Allah?" He said: "I have been commanded to go nowhere but this direction, this sea." So he spurred his horse into it, and it swam with him. He came out and said: "Where have you been commanded to go, O Prophet of Allah?" He said: "I have been commanded to go nowhere but this direction." He said: "By Allah, you have not lied, nor have you been lied to."

Then he spurred it a second time and it swam, then he came out. Then he said: "Where have you been commanded to go, O Prophet of Allah?" He said: "I have been commanded to go nowhere but this direction." He said: "By Allah, you have not lied, nor have you been lied to." He said: Then Allah inspired to Moses to strike the sea with his staff. So Moses struck it with his staff, and it parted. There were twelve tribes in it, with a path for each tribe, and they could see each other within it. When the companions of Moses exited and the companions of Pharaoh were completed, the sea collapsed upon them and drowned them.
