nor have you been lied to." Then he spurred it a second time and it swam, then he came out. Then he said: "Where have you been commanded to go, O Prophet of Allah?" He said: "I have been commanded to go nowhere but this direction." He said: "By Allah, you have not lied, nor have you been lied to." He said: Then Allah inspired to Moses to strike the sea with his staff. So Moses struck it with his staff, and it parted. There were twelve tribes in it, with a path for each tribe, and they could see each other within it. When the companions of Moses exited and the companions of Pharaoh were completed, the sea collapsed upon them and drowned them.
His saying: "Then We drowned the others."
15683 - 'Ammar ibn Khalid al-Wasiti narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Wasiti and Yazid ibn Harun reported to us, from Asbagh ibn Zayd, from al-Qasim ibn Abi Ayyub, Sa'id ibn Jubayr narrated to me, from Ibn 'Abbas who said: When the companions of Moses had all crossed, the companions of Pharaoh all entered, and the sea collapsed upon them as commanded. When Moses had crossed the sea, his companions said: "We fear that Pharaoh has not drowned, and we do not believe in his destruction." So he prayed to his Lord, and He brought him out with his body so that they could be certain.
15684 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi who said: When Pharaoh stood at the mouth of the path, his horses refused to enter. Then Gabriel descended upon a mare, and the horses smelled the scent of the mare and charged in pursuit of her. When the first of them intended to exit and the last of them had entered, the sea was commanded to take them, and it surged over them. Gabriel took it upon himself to face Pharaoh, urging him from the depths of the sea, and he would push him into his mouth.
15685 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray' reported to us, Sa'id reported to us, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "Then We drowned the others," and it was mentioned to us that when the last of the Children of Israel had exited the sea and the family of Pharaoh had entered the sea, the sea closed in upon them and drowned them.
15686 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah reported to us, 'Ubayd Allah ibn Musa reported to us, Isra'il informed us, from Abu Ishaq, from 'Amr ibn Maymun, from 'Abdullah who said: When the companions of Moses had exited and the companions of Pharaoh had completed their entry, the sea closed in upon them, and never was a greater multitude seen than on that day. He said: And Pharaoh drowned.
