the Children of Israel into the sea, and not one of them remained, Pharaoh approached on a stallion from among the horses until he stood at the brink of the sea, and it remained standing in its place. The stallion was afraid to advance, so Gabriel, peace be upon him, appeared to him on a mare that was white, and he brought it near him. The stallion smelled her, and when he smelled her, he followed her, and the stallion upon which Pharaoh was mounted advanced. When Pharaoh's army saw that he had entered, they entered with him. He said: Gabriel was in front of him, and Michael was on a horse behind the people, urging them on with his horse, saying: "Catch up with your companion." When Gabriel had emerged from the sea and no one was in front of him, and Michael stood on the other side and no one was behind him, the sea closed in upon them. Pharaoh called out when he saw what he saw of the power and might of Allah, and he recognized it, and his own soul failed him. He called out: "I believe that there is no god except the One in whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am of those who submit."
His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, in that is a sign."
15688 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah reported to us, Salamah reported to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq regarding His saying: "Indeed, in that is a sign," meaning a lesson and a clear proof that you were not as you used to claim for yourself. It was said: Had Allah, the Exalted, not brought him out with his body when He drowned him, some people would have doubted it.
His saying: "And most of them were not to be believers. And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful."
Its interpretation has already preceded.
His saying, the Almighty: "And recite to them the news of Abraham."
15689 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi [who said]: The first king who ruled on earth, its east and its west, was Nimrod ibn Canaan ibn Kushan ibn Sam ibn Nuh. The kings who ruled the earth were four: Nimrod, Solomon son of David, Dhu al-Qarnayn, and Nebuchadnezzar—two Muslims and two disbelievers. A star appeared to Nimrod that eclipsed the light of the sun and the moon, and he was alarmed by that, so he called the sorcerers, the soothsayers, the astrologers, and the diviners and asked them about it. They said: "A man will emerge from your kingdom upon whom will be your destruction and the destruction of your kingdom." His residence was in Babylon of Kufa. He departed from his village to another village, expelled the men, left the women, and ordered that no male newborn be born unless he slaughtered him, so he slaughtered their children. Then, a need arose for him in the city, and he did not trust anyone for it except Azar, the father of
