15767 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah reported to us, Salamah reported to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq reported to us, from one who is not accused, from 'Ubayd ibn 'Umayr al-Laythi, that he used to narrate that it reached him that they used to beat him—meaning Noah (peace be upon him)—and strangle him until he would lose consciousness. When he would recover, he would say: "O Lord, forgive my people, for they do not know." This continued until they persisted in disobedience, the sin became widespread among them in the land, the matter dragged on for him and them, the affliction from them intensified upon him, and generation after generation passed. No generation came except that it was more evil than the one that came before it, to the point that the last of them would say, "This one has been with our fathers and grandfathers like this, a madman," and they would not accept anything from him.
