His saying: "He said, 'My Lord, indeed my people have denied me.'"
15781 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, with his chain of narration reaching to Ibn 'Umayr al-Laythi, that he used to report: He said: Until they persisted—meaning the people of Noah—in disobedience, and sin became great among them upon the earth, and the affair became prolonged for him and for them, and the affliction from them intensified upon him. Generation after generation waited, and no century came but it was more wicked than the one that was before it, until the last of them would say: "This has been with our fathers and grandfathers, such a madman!" They would not accept anything from him, until Noah complained of this state of their affairs to Allah the Almighty, and he said as Allah recounted to us in His Book: "My Lord, indeed I invited my people night and day..." to the end of the story, to the end of the surah. When Noah, peace be upon him, complained of that from them to Allah and sought His victory over them, Allah revealed to him: "Build the Ark."
His saying the Almighty: "So judge between me and them with a decisive judgment."
15782 - Ahmad ibn 'Isam al-Ansari narrated to us, Mas'ad reported to us, from Qatadah who said: Ibn 'Abbas said: I did not know what His saying "judge (iftah) between us and between our people with truth" meant until I heard Ibn Dhi Yazan saying: "Come, let me judge (afatik) with you," meaning: "Come, let me dispute with you."
15783 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray', Sa'id reported to us, from Qatadah regarding "So judge between me and them with a decisive judgment," meaning: decree a judgment between me and them. A similar statement to that of Qatadah was narrated from al-Suddi and 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd.
His saying: "And save me and those with me of the believers."
15784 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah reported to us, Ibn Lahi'ah reported to us, 'Ata' reported to us, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "of the believers," meaning: from those who attest to the truth.
His saying: "So We saved him and those with him in the Ark."
15785 - My father narrated to us, al-Mu'ammal ibn Ihab reported to us, Zayd ibn Hubab reported to us, al-Hasan ibn Waqid reported to us, from Abu Nahik, from Ibn 'Abbas that he said: There were eighty men with Noah in the ship; one of them was Jurhum.
15786 - Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la informed us by way of reading, Ibn Wahb informed us, he said: It reached me from Ibn 'Abbas that he said: There were eighty men in Noah's ship, one of them was Jurhum, and his language was Arabic.
