Tafsir Ibn Abi Hatim
Volume 8 · Page 44[Surah al-Hajj (22): Verse 27]

Translation · EN

He said: 'Proclaim to the people the Hajj (pilgrimage).' He said: 'Lord, my voice will not reach them.' He said: 'Proclaim, and it is upon Me to convey it.'

He said: 'Lord, what shall I say?' He said: 'Say: O people, Hajj to the Ancient House has been prescribed for you.'

So it was heard between the heaven and the earth. Do you not see that they come from the furthest parts of the earth, responding to the call (talbiyah)?

13878 - From Ibn Abbas, he said: 'When Allah commanded Abraham to proclaim the Hajj among the people, he ascended Mount Abu Qubays, placed his fingers in his ears, and then proclaimed: "O people, Allah has prescribed Hajj for you, so answer your Lord." They answered him with the talbiyah while in the loins of men and the wombs of women, and the first to answer him were the people of Yemen.

There is no pilgrim who performs Hajj from that day until the Hour is established, except for those who answered Abraham on that day.'

His saying, the Almighty: 'And proclaim among the people the Hajj (pilgrimage).'

13879 - From Ali ibn Abi Talha, that Allah revealed to Abraham, peace be upon him: 'Proclaim among the people the Hajj.' So he stood upon the Stone (al-Hajar) and said: 'O people, Allah commands you to perform Hajj.' He was answered by whoever was created on earth at that time, and whoever was in the wombs of women, and whoever was in the loins of men, and whoever was in the seas, and they said: 'Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk (At Your service, O Allah, at Your service).'

13880 - From Mujahid, he said: 'When Abraham was commanded to proclaim the Hajj to the people, he stood upon the Station (al-Maqam) and proclaimed with a voice that was heard between the East and the West: "O people, answer your Lord."'

13881 - From Mujahid, he said: 'Abraham said: "What shall I say?" He said: "Say: O people, answer your Lord." So there was no mountain, tree, or anything else that Allah created from among those obedient to Him, but that it called out: "Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk." Thus, the talbiyah was established.'

13882 - From Mujahid, he said: 'The Station (al-Maqam) was raised for him until it became the tallest mountain on earth. He proclaimed the Hajj among them, and it was heard from beneath the seven seas, and they said: "Labbayk, we have obeyed; Labbayk, we have answered." Every person who performs Hajj until the Day of Resurrection is among those who answered him on that day.'

13883 - From Ibn Abbas, he said: 'When Abraham was commanded to proclaim among the people, the mountains humbled themselves for him and the earth was raised for him, so he stood and said: "O people, answer your Lord."'

13884 - From Ibn Abbas, he said: 'Abraham ascended Abu Qubays and said: "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar..."
