Volume 8 · Page 51His saying (the Exalted): 'For you in them is good'

Translation · EN

13939 - From Abd al-Karim, he said: Ata and al-Hakam differed. Ata said: The badana are from among camels and cattle. And al-Hakam said: From among the camels.

13940 - From Mujahid (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: It was only named badana because of its fatness (samana).

His saying, the Almighty: "For you therein is good."

13941 - From Ibrahim, regarding His saying: "For you therein is good," he said: It is the badana; if he is in need of its back, he rides it, or if he is in need of its milk, he drinks it.

13942 - From Mujahid (may Allah be pleased with him), regarding His saying: "For you therein is good," he said: For you is a reward and benefits in the badana.

13943 - From Malik ibn Anas, he said: Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib went for Hajj, and Ibn Harmala went for Hajj with him. Sa'id bought a ram and sacrificed it, while Ibn Harmala bought a badana for six dinars and slaughtered it. Sa'id said to him: "Do you not have an example to follow in us?" He replied: "I heard Allah saying: 'And the sacrificial camels (al-budn) - We have made them for you among the symbols of Allah; for you therein is good.' So I loved to take the good from where Allah has guided me to it." That pleased Ibn al-Musayyib regarding him, and he began to relate it on his authority.

His saying, the Almighty: "Aligned (sawaffa)."

13944 - From Abu Zabyan, he said: I asked Ibn Abbas regarding His saying: "So mention the name of Allah upon them when they are aligned (sawaffa)," he said: When you intend to slaughter the badana, stand it on three legs, tethered, then say: 'In the name of Allah, and Allah is the greatest, O Allah, from You and for You.'

13945 - From Ibn Umar: That he would slaughter a badana while it was standing, with one of its forelegs tethered, and he said: "Aligned (sawaffa) as Allah, the Almighty, said."

13946 - From al-Hasan, that he used to recite it "sawaffa" and said: "Purely for Allah, the Almighty." He said: They used to slaughter them for their idols.

13947 - From Zayd ibn Aslam, that he recited "So mention the name of Allah upon them when they are standing (sawafi)" with a ya.
