Volume 8 · Page 55[Surah al-Hajj (22): Verse 41]

Translation · EN

His saying, the Almighty: "Those who, if We establish them in the land."

13977 - From Abu al-Aliyah, regarding His saying: "Those who, if We establish them in the land," he said: They are the companions of Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace).

13978 - From Muhammad ibn Ka'b, regarding: "Those who, if We establish them in the land," he said: They are the leaders (wulat).

13979 - From Zayd ibn Aslam, regarding His saying: "Those who, if We establish them in the land," he said: The land of Medina. "They establish prayer," he said: The prescribed (obligatory) prayer. "And give zakat," he said: The obligatory (zakat). "And enjoin what is good," with 'there is no god but Allah.' "And forbid what is evil," he said: Shirk (associating partners) with Allah. "And to Allah belongs the outcome of all matters," he said: And with Allah is the reward for what they have done.

13980 - From Abu al-Aliyah, regarding the verse, he said: Their enjoining of good was that they called to Allah alone and to His worship, with no partner unto Him; and their forbidding of evil was that they forbade the worship of Satan and the worship of idols.

13981 - From Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Those who, if We establish them in the land," he said: This is a covenant of Allah upon this Ummah (community).

His saying, the Almighty: "And how many a city have We destroyed while it was committing wrong? So it is [now] fallen into ruin upon its roofs. And [how many] a neglected well and a lofty palace!"

13982 - From Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), regarding "a lofty palace," he said: It is that which is plastered with gypsum.

His saying, the Almighty: "So have they not traveled through the earth, and have hearts by which to reason and ears by which to hear? For indeed, it is not the eyes that are blinded, but blinded are the hearts which are within the breasts."

13983 - From Qatadah, regarding His saying: "For indeed, it is not the eyes that are blinded," he said: These are not the eyes that are in the heads, for Allah has made them a benefit and a provision. As for the beneficial sight, it is that which is in the heart. It was mentioned to us that it was revealed regarding Abdullah ibn Zaidah, meaning Ibn Umm Maktum.
