The second view:

14064 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "So ask those who keep account," [meaning] the angels.

It was narrated from al-Rabi' ibn Anas similarly.

His saying: "Indeed, you stayed but a little, if only you had known."

14065 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq who said: He said: "How long did you stay?" They replied: "We stayed a day or part of a day." All of that is regarding their own selves.

14066 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, 'Abd al-A'la ibn Hammad al-Narsi narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray', Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Indeed, you stayed but a little," meaning in the world. The world became insignificant in their own estimation and diminished when they witnessed the Day of Resurrection.

His saying: "Then did you think that We created you in jest?"

14067 - My father narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Rafi' narrated to us, Sulayman ibn 'Amir narrated to us, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas regarding His saying: "Then did you think that We created you in jest?" He said: "I did not create you for sport, but rather I created you for worship."

14068 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Then did you think that We created you in jest?" No, by Allah! He did not create anything in jest, nor did He leave anything to no purpose.

His saying: "And that you to Us would not be returned?"

14069 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Muhammad al-Tanafisi narrated to us, Ishaq ibn Sulayman—the shaykh of the people of the roads—narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Safwan, from a man from the family of Sa'id ibn al-'As who said: The last sermon that 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz delivered was that he praised Allah and extolled Him, then he said: "To proceed: Indeed, you were not created in jest, and you will never be left to no purpose, and indeed you have a place of return where Allah will descend to judge between you and separate you. So disappointed and lost is he who exits the mercy of Allah and is forbidden from His Paradise whose width is [the heavens and the earth]."
