"And those who accuse chaste women, then do not produce four witnesses, lash them with eighty lashes." Ibn Shihab said: Whoever accuses a free man or a free woman of adultery and does not produce four witnesses to testify to that, shall be flogged with the prescribed punishment, and his testimony shall not be accepted until he repents.

14163 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "Then do not produce four witnesses" meaning: free Muslims, that they had personally witnessed the two private parts interacting.

14164 - Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Ahmasi narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Mujalid, from al-Sha'bi, from Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah, he said: The Jews brought a man and a woman from among them who had committed adultery. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to them: "Bring me the two most learned men among you." They brought him the two sons of Suriya. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to them: "Are you the most learned among those you have left behind?" They said: "That is what they claim." He adjured them by Allah: "How do you find the matter of these two in the Torah?" They said: "We find in the Torah that if a man is found with a woman in a house, she is an adulteress and there is a punishment for her; and if he is found on top of her, or kissing her..." Abu Usamah said: "This is greater than that, for she is an adulteress and there is a punishment for her; and if four [witnesses] come and testify that they saw his penis in her vagina like the kohl applicator in the kohl container, they shall both be stoned." He said: "Then what prevents you from stoning them?" They said: "Our authority has departed, so we disliked killing." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called for witnesses, and the four came and testified that they had seen his penis in her vagina like the kohl applicator in the kohl container, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered them to be punished, and they were stoned.

14165 - Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, as I recall, he said: Muhammad ibn Ayyub narrated to us, he said: Abu al-Rabi' narrated to us. And 'Abd Allah ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Abu al-Rabi' narrated to us, Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Ayyub, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: When [the verse] was revealed: "And those who accuse chaste women, then do not produce four witnesses, lash them with eighty lashes," Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah said: "O Messenger of Allah, if I were to see a shameless woman with a man between her thighs, I would not gather four [witnesses] until the other had finished his need." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) then said: "Do you hear what your leader says?" Then his cousin, Hilal ibn Umayyah, was afflicted by this; he was in his land one night and returned at night to find with his wife...
