She testified the fifth time that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he were of the truthful. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) decreed that she should not be accused, nor should her child be accused; and whoever accused her or her child would be flogged with the prescribed punishment. She has no right to maintenance or housing from him, because they are separated without a divorce or the death of the husband. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Observe her; if she delivers a child who is dark-complexioned, with reddish hair, bow-legged, and thin-shanked, then he belongs to Hilal ibn Umayyah. But if she delivers a child who is stout-legged, with full buttocks, swarthy, curly-haired, and handsome, then he belongs to the man she was accused with." He said: She then delivered a child who was swarthy, curly-haired, handsome, stout-legged, and had full buttocks. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Were it not for the oaths [already taken], I would have had a different course of action regarding her and him." 'Abbad said: I heard 'Ikrimah say: "I saw him when he was a governor of one of the provinces, and he did not know who his father was."
His saying, the Exalted: "And the fifth [oath] is that the wrath of Allah be upon him"
14183 - Ahmad ibn Mansur al-Ramadi narrated to us, Yunus ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Salih—who is Ibn 'Umar—narrated to us, 'Asim ibn Kulayb narrated to us, from his father, Ibn 'Abbas narrated to me, saying: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and accused his wife of [committing adultery with] a man. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) disliked that, and he kept repeating it until the following was revealed: "And those who accuse their wives and have no witnesses except themselves..." He read until he finished the two verses. He then sent for them, summoned them, and said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has revealed [a ruling] concerning you both." He summoned the man and read to him, so he testified four times by Allah that he was indeed of the truthful. He then ordered that his mouth be held, and he admonished him, saying: "Everything is easier for you than the curse of Allah." Then he released him, and he said: "The curse of Allah be upon me if I am of the liars." Then she was summoned and he read to her, and she testified four times by Allah that he was indeed of the liars. Then he ordered that her mouth be held, and he admonished her, saying: "Woe to you, everything is easier than the wrath of Allah." Then he released her, and she said: "The wrath of Allah be upon me if he is of the truthful." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Allah, I will surely judge between you with a decisive judgment." He said: She then gave birth, and I never saw a newborn in Medina more covered than him. He had said: "If she delivers him looking like this and this, then he is for this and this, and he is such and such." So she delivered him looking like the one with whom she was accused.
14184 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "And the fifth [oath] is that the curse of Allah be upon him," meaning upon himself.
