Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding Allah's saying: "That she should testify four testimonies by Allah," meaning: The woman stands in the place of her husband and says four times: "I testify by Allah, other than Whom there is no god, that I am not an adulteress, and that my husband is indeed of the liars."

14193 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, who said: "Then the woman stood when her husband stood, and she said: 'I testify by Allah, other than Whom there is no god, that my husband is indeed of the liars, and that the pregnancy is from him.' Then she testified a second time by Allah, other than Whom there is no god, that my husband is indeed of the liars, and I am not an adulteress, and he has not seen any suspicion upon me. Then she testified a third time by Allah, other than Whom there is no god, that my husband is indeed of the liars. Then she testified a fourth time by Allah, other than Whom there is no god, that my husband is indeed of the liars."

14194 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abdullah narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "That he is indeed of the liars," meaning her husband.

His saying: "And the fifth [oath] is that the wrath of Allah be upon her."

14195 - Yunus ibn Habib narrated to us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, 'Abbad ibn Mansur narrated to us, 'Ikrimah narrated from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "It was said to her—meaning the woman—at the fifth [oath]: 'O you, fear Allah, for the punishment of Allah is more severe than the punishment of men, and this is the binding [oath] which subjects you to punishment.' She hesitated for a moment, then said: 'By Allah, I will not disgrace my people,' so she testified the fifth [oath] that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he were of the truthful."

14196 - Ahmad ibn Mansur al-Ramadi narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abdullah ibn Yunus narrated to us, Abu Bakr narrated from 'Asim ibn Kulayb, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "When the woman who had committed adultery was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and her husband said: 'She committed adultery with so-and-so,' he said: 'Testify.' So he testified four testimonies that she had committed adultery. When it came to the fifth, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to a man: 'Stand and place your hands over his mouth, for everything is lighter than the curse of Allah.' Then he said to the woman: 'Stand,' and she stood and testified four testimonies. When she came to the fifth, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to the man: 'Stand and place your hand over her mouth, for everything is lighter than the wrath of Allah.' Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Allah will surely judge between you.'"
