from Za'idah, 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib narrated to me, Mujahid narrated to us, from Ibn Abbas regarding "she uncovered her legs," he said: Behold, she was hairy. So Solomon said: "This is ugly; what will remove it?" He said: They replied: "Razors will remove it." He said: So Solomon said: "The marks of razors." He said: Thus the devils created the hair-removing paste (nawrah). He said: This is the first time the hair-removing paste was created.
16442 - My father narrated to us, 'Amr ibn 'Awn al-Wasiti narrated to us, Hushaym narrated to us, from some of his companions, from al-Hakam, from Mujahid, who said: "Bilqis was zabba' (hairy), halba' (long-haired)." He said: "The zabba' is the one with a lot of hair, and the halba' is the one with long hair."
His saying, the Exalted: "It is a palace paved with glass"
16443 - Isma'il ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud narrated to us, Shihab ibn 'Abbad narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Humayd al-Ru'asi narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid, from Abu Salih regarding "paved with glass," he said: He ordered the devils, and they built a palace for her made of glass in which there were depictions of fish. When she saw it, she thought it was a body of water and she uncovered her legs. It was said to her: "It is a palace paved with glass."
16444 - My father narrated to us, Abu Bishr 'Abd al-A'la ibn al-Qasim al-Basri narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak informed us, from Ibn Abi Khalid, from Abu Salih, regarding his saying: "paved with glass," he said: The mumarrad (paved/smoothed) is that which is tall.
16445 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, he said: Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Yazid ibn Ruman, then he said: "Enter the palace," to show her a kingdom that was mightier than her kingdom and a sovereignty that was greater than her sovereignty. When she saw it, she thought it was a body of water and uncovered her legs, not doubting that it was water she would wade through. So it was said to her: "It is a palace paved with glass." When she stood before Solomon, he called her to the worship of Allah and rebuked her for worshipping the devil instead of Allah.
His saying, the Exalted: "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, and I submit with Solomon to Allah, Lord of the worlds."
16446 - My father narrated to us, Ibn Abi 'Umar narrated to us, he said: Sufyan said: It was said to her: "Enter the palace." When she saw it, she thought it was a body of water, so she said to herself: "Solomon only intended to drown me in the sea; something else would have been better than this." When it was said to her: "It is a palace paved with glass," she said: "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself," meaning the assumption she had made about Solomon, peace be upon him.
