better than this. When it was said to her: "It is a palace paved with glass," she said: "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself," referring to the assumption she had made regarding Solomon, peace be upon him.

16447 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Salamah narrated to us, he said: Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Yazid ibn Ruman: When she stood before Solomon, and he called her to the worship of Allah and rebuked her for worshipping the devil instead of Allah, she spoke with the words of the zindiqs (heretics), or was it not an error? So Solomon fell prostrate in exaltation of what she had said, and the people prostrated with him. She was bewildered (saqata fi yadiha) when she saw Solomon do what he did. When Solomon raised his head, he said: "Woe to you, what have you said?" She had forgotten what she had said, so she said: "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, and I submit with Solomon to Allah, Lord of the worlds." Thus she embraced Islam, and her Islam was good.

His saying, the Exalted: "...and I submit with Solomon to Allah, Lord of the worlds."

16448 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali narrated to us, from Za'idah, 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib narrated to me, Mujahid narrated to us, and we were among the Azd, Ibn 'Abbas narrated to us, he said: Solomon, peace and blessings be upon him, would sit on his throne, then he would place chairs around him; the humans would sit on them, then the jinn, then the devils. He said: While he was one day on a journey, he inspected the birds. He said: So he missed the hoopoe, and said: "Why do I not see the hoopoe, or was he among the absent? I will surely punish him with a severe punishment or slaughter him or he must bring me a clear authority." He said: His punishment of him was that he would pluck his feathers and then cast him to the earth, so he would not be protected from an ant or anything of the creeping things of the earth. 'Ata' said: Sa'id ibn Jubayr mentioned, from Ibn 'Abbas, the like of Mujahid's hadith. He remained not long [after this], then he read until he finished at His saying: "We will see whether you were truthful or whether you were among the liars. Take this letter of mine"—and he wrote: "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. To Bilqis, do not be arrogant towards me and come to me in submission." When the hoopoe cast the letter to her, it was cast into her heart that it was a noble letter, and that it was from Solomon: "Do not be arrogant towards me and come to me in submission... They said: We are people of strength... She said: Indeed, kings, when they enter a city, they ruin it... And indeed, I am sending them a gift." When the gift came to Solomon, he said: "Do you provide me with wealth? ... Go back to them." When he looked at the dust, he informed...
