16491 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed me in what he wrote to me, Asbagh informed us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd saying regarding Allah's saying: "Indeed, they are people who keep themselves pure," he said: From their filthy deeds which they used to do: approaching men.

His saying, the Exalted: "So We saved him and his family, except his wife."

16492 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Kathir narrated to us, Sulayman ibn Kathir—meaning his brother—informed us, Husayn informed us, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: When the messengers of Allah entered upon Lot, Lot thought they were guests. He said: So he brought his daughters out onto the road and placed his guests between himself and his daughters. He said: And his people came to him, rushing toward him. He said: "These are my daughters; they are purer for you," up to His saying: "a powerful support." He said: Then Gabriel turned to him and said: "Do not fear; we are messengers of your Lord; they will never reach you." He said: So when they drew near, he blinded their eyes, and they left, blind, bumping into one another, until they went out to those at the door and said: "We have come to you from the side of the most sorcerous of people; our sight has been blinded." He said: So they departed, bumping into one another, until they entered the city, and it was in the dead of night. Then it was raised until they could hear the sound of birds in the atmosphere of the sky, then it was overturned upon them. Whoever was struck by the I'tifakah (the overturning/the cataclysm), it destroyed him. He said: And whoever went out with it, a stone followed him wherever he was and killed him.

His saying, the Exalted: "We determined her [to be] of those who remain behind."

Meaning: Those who remain in the punishment of Allah. The chain of narration for this has already passed.

His saying, the Exalted: "And We rained upon them a rain."

16493 - Abu 'Abd Allah al-Tihrani informed me in what he wrote to me, Isma'il ibn 'Abd al-Karim informed us, 'Abd al-Samad ibn Ma'qil narrated to me, from Wahb ibn Munabbih, he said: So Michael, and he is the one in charge of the punishment, inserted his wing until it reached the lowest part of the earth, then he lifted their villages and overturned them upon them. And stones descended from the sky, and they sought out those of them who were not in the village wherever they were, and Allah destroyed them all, and Lot and his family were saved, except his wife.

His saying, the Exalted: "Say, 'Praise to Allah, and peace upon His servants.'"
