His saying, the Exalted: "We will bring forth for them a creature from the earth."

16592 - Yunus ibn Habib narrated to us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from 'Ali ibn Zayd, from Aws ibn Khalid, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The creature of the earth will emerge, and with it will be the staff of Moses and the ring of Solomon (peace and blessings of Allah be upon them). It will mark the nose of the disbeliever with the staff and brighten the face of the believer with the ring, until the people gather at the dining table, and the believer will recognize the disbeliever."

16593 - Yunus ibn Habib narrated to us, Dawud narrated to us, from Talhah ibn 'Amr and Jarir ibn Hazim. As for Talhah, he said: 'Abd Allah ibn 'Ubayd ibn 'Umayr al-Laythi informed me that Abu al-Tufayl narrated to him, from Hudhayfah ibn Usayd al-Ghifari, Abu Sarihah. As for Jarir, he said: From 'Abd Allah ibn 'Ubayd, from a man from the family of 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud. The hadith of Talhah is the more complete and excellent of the two. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mentioned the creature and said: "It has three emergences in time. It will emerge once in the furthest reaches of the desert, and news of it will not reach the town," meaning Makkah. "Then it will remain hidden for a long time. Then it will emerge another time, less than that, and news of it will spread among the people of the desert, and news of it will enter Makkah." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Then, while the people are in one of the greatest mosques to Allah in sanctity, the best and most honorable of them, the Sacred Mosque (al-Masjid al-Haram), they will not be startled except by it, close by, lowing between the Corner and the Station. It will shake the dust from its head, and the people will scatter away from it in various directions, while a group of the believers will remain firm, knowing that they will never escape Allah. It will begin with them, brightening their faces until it makes them as if they were glittering stars. Then it will turn away across the earth; no pursuer can catch it, and no runaway can escape it. Indeed, a man might seek refuge from it through prayer, so it will come to him from behind and say: 'O so-and-so, you are praying now?' He will turn to it, and it will brand him on his face. Then it will depart. People will then share in wealth and accompany one another in the cities, and the believer will be recognized from the disbeliever, to the point that the believer will say: 'O disbeliever, settle my claim,' and the disbeliever will say: 'O believer, settle my claim.'"

16594 - Harun ibn Ishaq al-Hamdani narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from al-Walid ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Jumay' al-Qurashi, from 'Abd al-Malik ibn al-Mughirah al-Ta'ifi, from Ibn al-Baylamani, from Ibn 'Umar who said: "The creature will emerge on a Friday night, while people are traveling." He said: "Then the people will flee from its rear and its tail. There will not remain a hypocrite but that it will brand him, and it will stroke the believer, and the people will become worse than the Dajjal."

His saying, the Exalted: "A creature."

16595 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Abu Hafs al-Abbar narrated to us, from Layth, from 'Abd al-Malik ibn Maysarah, from al-Nazzal ibn Sabrah who said: It was said to 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): 'Some people claim that you are the creature of the earth.' 'Ali said: 'By Allah, the creature of the earth has feathers and soft down, and I have neither feathers nor soft down. It has a hoof, and I have no hoof. It will emerge at the pace of a fast horse in three days, and two-thirds of it have not yet emerged.'"

16596 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Uqbah ibn Mukram narrated to us, Yunus ibn Bukayr narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi, from 'Ali, that when he was asked about the creature, he said: 'By Allah, it does not have a tail, but it does have a beard.'

16597 - My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn Khalid narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn Yahya narrated to us, Ibn Jurayj narrated to us, from Abu al-Zubayr, that he described the creature and said: 'Its head is a head and its eyes are the eyes of a pig, its ears are elephant ears, its horn is the horn of a stag, its neck is the neck of an ostrich, its chest is that of a lion, its color is the color of a leopard, its waist is the waist of a cat, its tail is the tail of a ram, and its legs are the legs of a camel. Between every two joints is twelve cubits. It will emerge with the staff of Moses and the ring of Solomon (peace be upon him). There will not remain a believer but that it will mark his place of prostration with the staff of Moses with a white spot; that spot will spread until his face becomes white because of it. There will not remain a disbeliever but that it will mark his face with a black spot with the ring of Solomon; that spot will spread until his face becomes black because of it. To the extent that people will trade in the markets, saying: "How much for this, O believer?" and "How much for this, O disbeliever?" and even the members of a household will sit at their table and recognize their believer from their disbeliever. Then the creature will say to them: "O so-and-so, rejoice, you are of the people of Paradise; and O so-and-so, you are of the people of the Fire." That is the saying of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic: "And when the Word comes to pass upon them, We will bring forth for them a creature from the earth, speaking to them, that the people were not certain of Our signs."

16598 - My father narrated to us, Ibn Nufayl narrated to us, Zuhayr narrated to us, Qabus narrated to us, that his father narrated to him, saying: We asked Ibn 'Abbas about the creature, and he said: "It is like a large spear."
