15871 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Abu al-Jumahir narrated to us, [saying]: Sa'id ibn Bashir narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Abu al-Khalil that she [the she-camel] used to come to a mountain pass that I have seen. He said: I said, "How big is it?" He said, "Thirty-seven cubits; I measured it." He said: "And she would depart through another pass." He said, "I said: 'How is it?'" He said: "Its height and a half." And he narrated that when she would depart, her ribs would leave an impression on the mountain.

His saying (the Almighty): "And do not touch her with harm."

15872 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi narrated to me, in what he wrote to me, [saying]: Ahmad ibn al-Fadl narrated to us, [saying]: Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi [who] said: So they asked—meaning Salih—that he bring them a sign, so he brought them the she-camel, for her is a right to drink and for them is a right to drink on a known day. And he said: "Leave her to eat on Allah's land and do not touch her with harm." They all agreed to this, and that is His saying: "But We guided them, yet they preferred blindness over guidance," for they had agreed to it in a state of hypocrisy.

15873 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, [saying]: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, [saying]: Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq [who] said: The she-camel that Allah brought forth for them remained with her foal in the land of Thamud, grazing on the trees and drinking the water. Salih said to them: "This is the she-camel of Allah as a sign for you, so leave her to eat on Allah's land... and do not touch her with harm, or you will be seized by the punishment of a Great Day."

His saying (the Almighty): "Or you will be seized by the punishment of a Great Day."

15874 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Abu al-Jumahir narrated to us, [saying]: Sa'id informed us, from Qatadah, [saying]: Shahr ibn Hawshab narrated to us that he saw their place, and that he could not recognize anything of them except the place of a needle, for they had become ashes. Allah (the Almighty) said: "It was the punishment of a Great Day."

His saying (the Almighty): "But they hamstrung her and became regretful."

15875 - Harun ibn Ishaq al-Hamdani narrated to us, [saying]: 'Abdah ibn Sulayman al-Kilabi narrated to us, from Hisham ibn 'Urwah, from his father, from 'Abd Allah ibn Zam'ah [who] said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) mention the she-camel and the one who hamstrung her, and he said: "When the most wretched of them was sent forth," a man was sent forth for her who was fierce, honored among his tribe, and defiant, like Abu Zam'ah.

15876 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: 'Uthman ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, [saying]: Yahya ibn Yaman narrated to us, from Sufyan al-Thawri, from Abu Sinan, from 'Abd Allah ibn Abi al-Hudhayl [who] said: When the she-camel was hamstrung, her foal climbed a mountain and bellowed, and everything that heard it was terrified."
