15877 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Hisham ibn 'Ammar narrated to us, [saying]: al-Walid narrated to us, [saying]: Khulayd ibn Da'laj narrated to us, from Qatadah: That when the people of Thamud hamstrung the she-camel, they whispered among themselves and said: 'The outcome is upon you.' So a man from the Qarah [tribe] ascended a mountain. When it was a [certain] day, he faced the Qiblah and said: 'O Lord, my nation! O Lord, my nation! O Lord, my nation!' He said: 'So the blast (al-sayhah) was sent upon them at that moment.' It was also narrated from al-Hasan something similar.
15878 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, [saying]: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, [saying]: Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq [who] said: They lay in wait for the she-camel until she departed from the water, and Qidar had lain in ambush for her at the base of a rock on her path, and Misda' had lain in ambush for her at the base of another. She passed by Misda', and he shot her with an arrow, which pinned the muscle of her leg. He said: Then Qidar charged at the she-camel with a sword, and he severed her hock; she collapsed and let out one loud cry, warning her foal. Then he stabbed her in her throat, slaughtered her, and left.
She reached a high mountain, then reached a rock at the top of the mountain, bellowed, and then took refuge by it. Salih came to them, and when he saw that the she-camel had been hamstrung, he wept and said: 'You have violated the sanctity of Allah, so receive tidings of the punishment of Allah and His vengeance.'
His saying (the Almighty): "So the punishment seized them."
15879 - Muhammad ibn 'Awf al-Homsi narrated to us, [saying]: Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Uthman ibn Khuthaym, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) [who] said: 'They were insolent toward the command of their Lord'—meaning the people of Salih—'and they hamstrung her,' so Allah promised them that they would enjoy [life] in their homes for three days, and the command of Allah was a promise that would not be lied about. Then the blast (al-sayhah) came to them, and it destroyed those who were between the east and the west of the earth, except for a man who was in the sanctuary of Allah (al-haram), so the sanctuary of Allah protected him from the punishment of Allah. It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, who is he?' He said: 'Abu Righal.' It was said: 'And who is Abu Righal?' He said: 'The father of Thaqif.'
15880 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: 'Isa ibn Yunus narrated to us, [saying]: Damrah narrated to us, from Ibn 'Ata', from his father [who] said: When the people of Salih killed the she-camel, Salih said to them: 'The punishment is coming to you.' They said to him: 'And what is the sign of that?' He said: 'That your faces will become red on the first day, yellow on the second day, and black on the third day.' When they woke up on the first day, they began looking at one another's faces and saying: 'O so-and-so, what is wrong with your face, it has become red?' And the other would say: 'O so-and-so, what is wrong with your face, it has become red?' When it was the second day...
