[Surah al-Qasas]

28

[His saying, the Exalted: Ta-Sin-Mim]

[The first interpretation]

16661 - My father narrated to us: Abu Salih narrated to us: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "Ta-Sin-Mim," he said: It is an oath which Allah has sworn, and it is one of the names of Allah.

16662 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us: Shu'bah narrated to us, he said: I asked al-Suddi about His saying: "Alif-Lam-Mim," "Ha-Mim," and "Ta-Sin-Mim," and he said: Ibn 'Abbas said: It is the Greatest Name of Allah.

The second interpretation:

16663 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us: Yazid narrated to us: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "Ta-Sin-Mim," he said: It is a name from the names of the Qur'an by which your Lord has sworn.

His saying, the Exalted: "These are the verses of the manifest Book."

Its explanation has already preceded.

His saying, the Exalted: "We recite to you from the news of Moses and Pharaoh in truth for a people who believe."

16664 - Through him [chain above] from Qatadah regarding his saying: "We recite to you from the news of Moses and Pharaoh in truth for a people who believe," he said: Their news is in the Qur'an.

His saying, the Exalted: "Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land."

16665 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us: 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us: Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, he said: It was among the affairs of Pharaoh that he saw a vision in his sleep: that a fire approached from Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem) until it encompassed the houses of Egypt, burning them and leaving the Children of Israel [unharmed], while it burned the houses of Egypt. So he summoned the sorcerers, the soothsayers, the qafah (those who interpret signs or traces), and the hazah (diviners). As for the qafah, they are the 'afah. And the 'afah are those who augur by birds. He asked them about his vision, and they said: A man shall emerge from this land which the Children of Israel came from—meaning Bayt al-Maqdis—who will be the destruction of Egypt at his hands. So he ordered that no male child born to the Children of Israel be spared, but that they should slaughter him, and no female child should be born to them but that she should be left. And he said to the Copts: Look at your slaves who work outside, and bring them in, and set the Children of Israel to perform those filthy labors. So he set the Children of Israel to the labor of his boys, and he brought his boys in. That is the time when Allah says: "Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land," meaning: He acted arrogantly in the land. It was narrated from 'Ikrimah similarly.
