Among the men, no one from the family of Pharaoh could violate anyone from the Children of Israel who was with him through oppression or forced labor, until they (the Children of Israel) had achieved full protection. While Moses was walking in a part of the city, he suddenly saw two men fighting: one of them was a Pharaohite, and the other was an Israelite.
His saying, the Exalted: "This is from his faction and this is from his enemy."
16761 - My father narrated to us: Ibn Abi 'Umar narrated to us: Sufyan narrated to us, from Abu Sa'd, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding his saying: "And he entered the city at a time of inattention by its people, and found therein two men fighting: this is from his faction"—an Israelite—"and this is from his enemy"—a Copt.
It was similarly narrated from Qatadah and al-Suddi.
16762 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us: Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq: "This is from his faction," meaning a Muslim; "and this is from his enemy," meaning this one is from the people of Pharaoh's religion: a disbeliever.
His saying, the Exalted: "And the one from his faction sought his aid."
16763 - Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Abi al-Thalj narrated to us: Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us: Asbagh ibn Zayd informed us, al-Qasim ibn Abi Ayyub narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Jubayr narrated to us, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "And the one from his faction sought his aid against the one from his enemy," [meaning] the Israelite sought his aid against the Pharaohite.
16764 - Abu 'Abd Allah al-Tehrani informed us in writing: 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us: Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "And the one from his faction sought his aid," [who] said: The one who sought his aid was a man from the Children of Israel who sought the aid of Moses against his enemy from the family of Pharaoh.
His saying, the Exalted: "Against the one from his enemy."
16765 - Ibn Abi al-Thalj, [i.e.,] Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us: Asbagh informed us: al-Qasim narrated to us: Sa'id narrated to us, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: Moses became extremely angry, because he (the Copt) had attacked him (the Israelite) while he knew of Moses' status among the Children of Israel, and he (Moses) had protected them [without the people knowing anything about it, except that it was from breastfeeding, and except for Moses' mother], unless Allah had revealed to Moses, peace be upon him, of that which He did not reveal to anyone else. So Moses struck the Pharaohite with his fist and killed him, and no one saw them except Allah, and then the Israelite.
