16786 - Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Abi al-Thalj narrated to us: Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us: Asbagh ibn Zayd reported: al-Qasim ibn Abi Ayyub narrated to us: Sa'id ibn Jubayr narrated to us, from Ibn 'Abbas: Moses said to the Israelite, because of what he had done yesterday and today: "Indeed, you are a clear deviant."

His saying, the Exalted: "And when he wanted to strike the one who was an enemy to both of them."

16787 - And through the same chain from Ibn 'Abbas: While they were wandering about and finding no proof, Moses saw that Israelite the next day fighting another man from the family of Pharaoh. The Israelite called him for help against the Egyptian. Moses happened to have regretted what had occurred from him, and he disliked what he saw, so he became angry at the Israelite, and while he was intending to strike the Egyptian, he said to the Israelite, for what he had done yesterday and today: "Indeed, you are a clear deviant."

His saying, the Exalted: "He said, 'O Moses, do you want to kill me as you killed a person yesterday?'"

16788 - And through the same chain from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: The Israelite looked at Moses after he said to him what he said, and behold, he was angry, like his anger yesterday with which he killed the Egyptian. So he feared that after Moses said to him, "Indeed, you are a clear deviant," that he meant him. He had not intended him, but had rather intended the Egyptian. The Israelite grew afraid and restrained the Egyptian, and said: "O Moses, do you want to kill me as you killed a person yesterday?" He only said that for fear that Moses had intended him in order to kill him. So they left each other, and the Egyptian went to his people and informed them of the news he heard from the Israelite when he said: "Do you want to kill me as you killed a person yesterday?"

16789 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us: 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us: Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "He said, 'O Moses, do you want to kill me as you killed a person yesterday?'" He said: So Moses left him, and the Copt went and exposed him, that Moses was the one who had killed the man.

His saying, the Exalted: "You only want to be a tyrant in the land."

16790 - Abu 'Abd Allah al-Tehrani narrated to us: Hafs ibn 'Umar al-'Adani narrated to us: al-Hakam ibn Aban narrated to us, from 'Ikrimah, regarding the man's saying to Moses: "Do you want to kill me as you killed a person yesterday? You only want to be a tyrant in the land," 'Ikrimah said: A man is not a tyrant until he kills two people. And it was narrated from al-Sha'bi similarly.
