His saying (the Almighty): "So We saved him and his family, all of them."

15889 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Muhammad ibn Kathir narrated, [saying]: Sulayman ibn Kathir, his brother, reported to us, [saying]: Husayn narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas [who] said: When the messengers of Allah entered upon Lot, he thought they were guests. He said: So he brought his daughters out to the road and placed his guests between himself and his daughters. He said: And his people came to him, rushing towards him, so he said: "These are my daughters; they are purer for you..." to His saying: "or take refuge with a powerful support." He said: Then Gabriel turned to him and said: "Do not fear. Indeed, we are messengers of your Lord; they will never reach you." He said: When they drew near, He blinded their eyes, so they departed blind, one colliding with another, until they went out to those at the door, saying: "We have come to you from the most sorcerous of people—our eyes have been blinded." He said: Then they departed, one colliding with another, until they entered the city. It was in the dead of night, [and] it was lifted up until they could hear the sound of birds in the sky, then it was overturned upon them. Whoever was struck by the overthrow was destroyed. He said: And whoever exited from it, a stone followed him and killed him. He said: So Lot left it with his daughters, and they were three. When he reached a place in the Levant, the eldest died, so he buried her.

His saying (the Almighty): "Except an old woman among those who remained."

15890 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid reported, [saying]: Yazid narrated to us, [saying]: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Except an old woman among those who remained." He said: She is his wife.

15891 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-A'la narrated to us, [saying]: Muhammad ibn Thawr narrated to us, from Ma'mar, from Qatadah regarding "those who remained," [who] said: The ones left behind in the punishment of Allah.

15892 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, [saying]: Asbagh reported, [saying]: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd regarding the saying of Allah: "Except an old woman among those who remained"—the wife of Lot, the one who remained behind, the wretched one, among "those who remained"—the ones left behind who were abandoned and left.

His saying (the Almighty): "And We rained upon them a rain."

15893 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, [saying]: Musaddad narrated to us, [saying]: Khalid narrated to us, [saying]: Husayn narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas [who] said: When it was the dead of night, Gabriel inserted his wing under the village and lifted it until it was in the sky, to the point that they could hear the sounds of birds, [then] He overturned it and then pursued those who were stragglers, and those who had gone out from among them with stones.
