Moses, peace be upon him, from Egypt to Madyan, and between him and it were eight nights. It was said: Like the distance from Basra to Kufa. He had no food except the leaves of trees, and he went out barefoot, and he did not reach it until the soles of his feet were worn through.

His saying, the Exalted: "He found there a crowd of people watering."

His saying, the Exalted: "And he found besides them two women."

16815 - Via the same chain, from Ibn Ishaq, meaning His saying: "And he found besides them two women," meaning: He found two women apart from the people.

His saying, the Exalted: "Holding back."

16816 - Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Abi al-Thalj narrated to us: Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us: Asbagh ibn Zayd narrated to us: al-Qasim ibn Abi Ayyub narrated to us: Sa'id ibn Jubayr narrated to us, from Ibn 'Abbas, "And he found besides them two women holding back," meaning by that: restraining their sheep. It was narrated similarly from Sa'id ibn Jubayr and al-Suddi.

16817 - My father narrated to us: 'Amr ibn 'Awn narrated to us: Hushaym informed us, from Husayn, from Abu Malik, regarding His saying: "Holding back," he said: They were restraining their sheep until the people finished and the well was clear for them.
