Translation · EN

The third view:

16948 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah [regarding] His saying: "And you were not by the side of the Mount when We called," meaning: when We called Musa, peace be upon him. And regarding His saying: "But as a mercy from your Lord," meaning: We did not relate to you [the story] so that you may warn a people to whom no warner had come before you, that they might be reminded.

His saying, Exalted is He: "And were it not that a disaster should strike them because of what their hands have put forth, so that they would say: 'Our Lord, why did You not send to us a messenger?'"

16949 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us: Minjab narrated to us, Bishr informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "Our Lord," meaning: O our Lord.

16950 - My father narrated to us: 'Abd Allah ibn Salih ibn Muslim narrated to us, Fudayl ibn Marzuq narrated to us, from 'Atiyyah al-'Awfi, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "The one who perishes during the interval (al-fatra) will say: 'My Lord, no scripture or messenger came to me.' Then he recited this verse: 'Our Lord, why did You not send to us a messenger, so that we might follow Your verses and be among the believers?'"

16951 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi narrated to us: Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: As for "the verses of Allah," it is Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

His saying, Exalted is He: "And be among the believers"

Meaning: those who attest to the truth. Its interpretation has preceded.

His saying, Exalted is He: "But when the truth came to them from Us, they said: 'Why was he not given like what was given to Musa?'"

16952 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us: Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "Like what was given to Musa," [meaning] the Jews commanding the Quraysh to ask Muhammad [to be given] like what was given to Musa before.

And regarding His saying: "Have they not disbelieved in what was given to Musa before?"

16953 - By the same chain, from Mujahid: Allah says to Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: Say to the Quraysh: [Do] they say: 'Have they not disbelieved in what was given to Musa before?'"
