these two books: that with which Musa was sent, and that with which Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was sent." He did not say: "Then bring a scripture from before Allah that is more guiding than both of them, [so] I will follow it."
His saying, Exalted is He: "If you are truthful"
16967 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad informed us: Adam narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah: "If you are truthful" in what you say—that it is as you say. It was narrated from al-Rabi' ibn Anas similarly.
His saying, Exalted is He: "But if they do not respond to you, then know that they only follow their [own] desires"
16968 - al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan narrated to us: Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah al-Harawi narrated to us, Hajjaj narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujahid, he said: "Responding" [here] is obedience.
His saying, Exalted is He: "And who is more astray than he who follows his own desire without guidance from Allah?"
16969 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl ibn Musa: Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn al-Hasan ibn Shaqiq narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us, Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, [regarding] His saying: "And who is more astray"—he says: Who is more mistaken.
His saying, Exalted is He: "Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people"
16970 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us: Minjab narrated to us, Bishr informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas: "The wrongdoers"—he says: The disbelievers.
His saying, Exalted is He: "And We have connected"
16971 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us: al-Husayn ibn 'Ali narrated to us, 'Amir ibn al-Furat narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "And We have connected the discourse for them"—he said: We have clarified the discourse for them.
16972 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us: Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Numayr and Abu Bakr and 'Uthman narrated to us, Ibn Abi Shaybah informed us, they said: Waki' narrated to us, from his father, from Layth, from Mujahid: "And We have connected the discourse for them"—he said: We have detailed the discourse for them.
His saying, Exalted is He: "For them"
16973 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us: Yazid ibn Harun ibn Hammad narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Dinar, from Yahya ibn Ja'dah, from Rifa'ah al-Qurazi, he said: It was revealed: "And We have connected the discourse for them"—concerning ten [people], and I am one of them.
هَذَيْنِ الْكِتَابَيْنِ: الَّذِي بُعِثَ بِهِ مُوسَى، وَالَّذِي بُعِثَ بِهِ مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، لَمْ يَقُلْ: فَأَتَوْا بِكِتَابٍ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ هو أهدى منها أَتَّبِعْهُ
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ
١٦٩٦٧ - أَخْبَرَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ رَوَّادٍ ثنا آدَمُ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ بِمَا تَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُ كَمَا تَقُولُونَ. وَرُوِيَ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَجِيبُوا لَكَ فَاعْلَمْ أَنَّمَا يَتَّبِعُونَ أهواءهم
١٦٩٦٨ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْهَرَوِيُّ، ثنا حَجَّاجٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَالَ: الاسْتِجَابَةُ: الطَّاعَةُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَمَنْ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنِ اتَّبَعَ هَوَاهُ بِغَيْرِ هُدًى مِنَ اللَّهُ
١٦٩٦٩ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ مُوسَى، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ ابن شَقِيقٍ أَنْبَأَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُزَاحِمٍ، ثنا بُكَيْرُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ، عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ، قَوْلُهُ:
وَمِنْ أَضَلُّ يَقُولُ: أَخْطَأَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ
١٦٩٧٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا مِنْجَابٌ أَنْبَأَ بِشْرٌ، عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ الظَّالِمِينَ يَقُولُ: الْكَافِرِينَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَلَقَدْ وَصَّلْنَا
١٦٩٧١ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا عَامِرُ بْنُ الْفُرَاتِ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ وَلَقَدْ وَصَّلْنَا لَهُمُ الْقَوْلَ قَالَ: بَيَّنَّا لَهُمُ الْقَوْلَ.
١٦٩٧٢ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وعثمان أنبأ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالُوا:، ثنا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ وَلَقَدْ وَصَّلْنَا لَهُمُ الْقَوْلَ قَالَ: فَصَّلْنَا لَهُمُ الْقَوْلَ.
