Volume Nine

[Completion of Surah Al-Shu'ara]

[His saying: 'So fear Allah and obey me' up to his saying: 'The Lord of the Worlds']

His saying: 'Do you build on every high ground (ri')?'

15798 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Salih narrated to us, [saying]: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us, from Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn Abbas regarding His saying: 'Do you build on every ri',' he said: On every elevated place (sharaf).

15799 - Ali ibn al-Hasan al-Hisinjani narrated to us, [saying]: Sa'id ibn Abi Maryam narrated to us, [saying]: Mufaddal narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Sakhr narrated to us regarding 'Do you build on every ri' a sign, that you may amuse yourselves?' He said: The ri' is the mountains and the high places of the earth.

15800 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Isa ibn Ja'far narrated to us, [saying]: Muslim—meaning Ibn Khalid—narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding the saying of Allah: 'Do you build on every ri',' he said: The ri' is the small mountain pass (thaniyyah).

15801 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, [saying]: Shababah narrated to us, [saying]: Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding 'on every ri',' he said: On every mountain pass (fajj).

15802 - Al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, [saying]: Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, [saying]: Hajjaj narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujahid regarding 'on every ri',' he said: A mountain pass (fajj) between two mountains.

15803 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, [saying]: Al-Husayn ibn 'Ali narrated to us, [saying]: 'Amir ibn al-Furat narrated to us, [saying]: Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding 'Do you build on every ri',' he said: The ri' is what faces the road between mountains and hills (zirab).

15804 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Hudbah ibn Khalid narrated to us, [saying]: Hammam narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding this verse 'Do you build on every ri',' he said: On every road (tariq).

15805 - Isma'il ibn al-Harith narrated to us, [saying]: Yahya ibn Abi Bukayr narrated to us, from Sharik, from al-Suddi, he said: The ri' is the road (tariq).

15806 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, [saying]: My father narrated to me, [saying]: My uncle narrated to me, [saying]: My father narrated to us, from his father, from Ibn Abbas regarding 'on every ri',' he said: The ri' is the road. It was also narrated from Qatadah the same as that.
