17154 - 'Ubayd Allah ibn Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali narrated to us, 'Amir ibn al-Furat narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi regarding "And We caused the earth to swallow him and his home," he said: He acted insolently toward Musa, so he went to a prostitute who was called Shirta. He said to her: "Will you accept two thousand dirhams if you come to the gathering of the Children of Israel when Musa sits, and say: 'Musa attempts to seduce me'?" She said: "Yes." He gave her the two thousand and sealed it with his ring. When she took it, she said: "What an evil woman I would be if I were to commit adultery, lie about the Prophet of Allah, and fabricate against him." When morning came, Korah set out and sat in his place, and the Children of Israel gathered around him, and Shirta attended. Korah said: "O Musa, what has Allah revealed regarding the adulterer?" He said: "Stoning." He said: "Look at what you are saying." He said: "Stoning." He said: "You are looking at what you are saying?" He said: "Stoning." He said: "Speak, O Shirta, and inform the Children of Israel of what Musa wanted from you." She said: "Korah gave me two thousand dirhams to come to the gathering of the Children of Israel when Musa sat and say: 'Musa attempted to seduce me.' I seek refuge in Allah from that; here is his money with his ring." Musa became angry, stood up, prayed two rak'ahs, and prayed to his Lord to cause the earth to swallow him and to empower the earth over him. Allah commanded the earth to obey him. He said to the earth: "Take him." It concealed his feet. Harun stood up and took him by his head, and said: "O Musa, I adjure you by our kinship." Korah began to say: "O Musa, I adjure you by our kinship," while Musa kept saying to the earth: "Take him," until it concealed him, so it took him away and the earth swallowed him and his house. Then Allah revealed to Musa: "He called upon you for help and adjured you by kinship, and you refused to aid him. Had he called upon Me or asked Me for help, I would have aided him."

17155 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Ibrahim Duhaym narrated to us, al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, Ibn Jabir narrated to us, 'Ata' narrated to me: It was a habit of Musa to go out to the Children of Israel on a day to preach to them. When Korah knew of this, he would go out with four thousand [men] wearing robes of purple on four thousand gray mules, so that he would pass by the sides of Musa, and the people would turn their faces toward him. Musa, peace be upon him, sent word to him: "What is it that drives you to do what you are doing?" He sent word back to him: "By Allah, the lineage is one, and if you have been favored over me with prophethood, I have been favored over you with wealth. If you wish, let us go out and you pray against me and I will pray against you." Musa went out and Korah went out with his people. Musa said to him: "Will you pray, or shall I pray?" Korah said: "No, I will pray." He prayed but was not answered, and he was indeed deserving of that. He said: So Musa said: "Shall I pray?" He said: "Yes." He said: "O Allah, command the earth to obey me." It was commanded to obey him. He said: Musa, peace be upon him, said: "Take them." It took them by their feet. He said: "O Musa, O Musa." He said: "Take them."
