17157 - Abu ‘Abd Allah al-Tehrani informed us in what he wrote to me, ‘Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ja‘far ibn Sulayman informed us, ‘Ali ibn Zayd narrated to us, who said: I heard ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Harith ibn Nawfal al-Hashimi, while he was leaning against the Maqsura, mention Korah and the treasures he was given. He said: 'It was only given to me because of knowledge I possess.' He said: It reached us that he was given treasures and wealth to the point that he made the door of his house out of gold and made his entire house out of plates of gold. The nobles of the Children of Israel would visit him in the morning and evening, he would feed them food, and they would talk in his presence. He was harmful to Musa, and neither hardship nor calamity could deter him until he sent word to a woman from the Children of Israel who was noted for her beauty and was referred to as Barniyya. He said to her: 'Would you be willing for me to enrich you, give you, and mix you with my women, provided that you come to me while the nobles of the Children of Israel are in my presence and say: O Korah, will you not stop Musa from me?' She said: 'Yes.' He said: So when his companions came and gathered in his presence, he called for her. She stood above them, but Allah turned her heart and granted her repentance. She said: 'I find no repentance today better than to prove the enemy of Allah a liar and to exonerate the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.' She said: 'Korah sent for me and said: Would you be willing for me to enrich you, give you, and mix you with my women, provided that you come to me while the nobles of the Children of Israel are in my presence and say: O Korah, will you not stop Musa from me? For I find no repentance today better than to prove the enemy of Allah a liar and to exonerate the Messenger of Allah.'

Korah hung his head, knowing he was ruined, and the story spread among the people until it reached Musa, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Musa was very angry, and when he received the news, he performed wudu, then prayed and prostrated, weeping. He said: 'O Lord, Your enemy Korah has been harmful to me,' and he mentioned several things, then he did not stop until he desired to disgrace me. O Lord, give me power over him.' Allah revealed to him: 'Command the earth as you wish, it will obey you.' He said: So Musa came to Korah. When Korah saw him, he recognized the anger in his face and said: 'O Musa, have mercy on me!' Musa said: 'O earth, take them!' His house shook, and he and his companions were swallowed by the earth up to their knees, and his house sank accordingly. He said: He kept saying, 'O Musa, have mercy on me,' and Musa said, 'O earth, take them!' His house shook, and he and his companions were swallowed by the earth up to their waists, and his house sank accordingly. He kept saying, 'O Musa, have mercy on me,' and Musa said, 'O earth, take them!' He said: His house shook, and he and his companions were swallowed by the earth up to their throats, and his house sank accordingly. He said, 'O Musa, have mercy on me.' He said: 'O earth, take them!' He said: 'So he, his companions, and his house were swallowed up. When he was swallowed, it was said to him: O Musa, how harsh you are! By My might, had he prayed to Me, I would have had mercy on him.'
