17158 - Abu ‘Imran al-Jawni said: It was said to Musa: I will never return the earth to anyone after you.

17159 - Abu Sa‘id ibn Yahya ibn Sa‘id al-Qattan narrated to us, Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri narrated to us, from Sufyan, from al-Agharr ibn al-Sabah, from Khalifah ibn Husayn, from Abu Nasr, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "So We caused the earth to swallow him and his house." He said: The seventh, lowest earth.

17160 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid al-Narsi informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray‘ narrated to us, Sa‘id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying, the Exalted: "So We caused the earth to swallow him and his house." He said: It was mentioned to us that he is swallowed into it one stature every day, and that he will continue sinking within it and will not reach its bottom until the Day of Resurrection.

17161 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Safwan narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Bashir narrated to us, Qatadah narrated to us, from Abu Maymunah, from Samurah ibn Jundub, that he said: Korah and his people will be swallowed into the earth one stature every day, and he will not reach the lowest earth until the Day of Resurrection.

17162 - ‘Ubayd ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Hamzah al-Dimashqi informed us in what he wrote to me, Abu al-Jamahir narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Bashir informed me, Qatadah narrated to us, who said: Allah commanded the earth to obey him for a moment.

17163 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, al-Layth narrated to me, ‘Uqayl narrated to me, from Ibn Shihab, ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Awf al-Qari, the administrator of ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz over the diwan of Palestine, informed me that it reached him that Allah, Blessed and Exalted, commanded the earth to obey Musa regarding Korah. When he encountered him, he said to the earth: "Close in!" It took him up to his knees. Then he said: "Close in!" It took him up to his hips, while he was calling for help, "O Musa!" Then he said: "Close in!" It concealed him in its depths. Then Allah revealed to him: "O Musa, how stern your heart is—or how hard your heart is! By My might and majesty, had he called upon Me for help, I would have helped him." He said: "O Lord, I did it out of anger for Your sake."

His saying, the Exalted: "And he had no company to help him other than Allah."

17164 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray‘ narrated to us, Sa‘id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And he had no company to help him other than Allah," i.e., no troop to help him other than Allah. "Nor was he of those who could defend themselves." He said: He had no strength with which he could protect himself from Allah, Blessed and Exalted.
