His saying, the Exalted: "[on] the earth, and not in the heaven. And you have not besides Allah any protector or helper."
17231 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us, in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj informed us, he said: I heard ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding the saying of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic: "And you will not cause failure on the earth, and not in the heaven," he said: The people of the earths will not cause failure [to Him] on the earths, nor will the people of the heavens [cause failure to Him] in the heavens, if they disobey Him. And he recited: "Not absent from Him is an atom's weight within the heavens or within the earth or [what is] smaller than that or greater, except that it is in a clear register."
His saying, the Exalted: "And those who disbelieved in the verses of Allah"
17232 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim narrated to us, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal reported to us, Asbat informed us, from al-Suddi: "Disbelieved in the verses of Allah," [meaning] what are the verses of Allah except Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
His saying, the Exalted: "And the meeting with Him"
17233 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr ibn Lahi‘ah reported to us, ‘Ata’ narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "The meeting with Him," he said: The resurrection in the Hereafter.
His saying, the Exalted: "Those—they have despaired of My mercy, and those—they will have a painful punishment."
The interpretation of "painful punishment" has already preceded more than once.
His saying, the Exalted: "But the answer of his people was nothing but"
17234 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid reported to us, Yazid ibn Zuray‘ reported to us, he said: I heard Sa‘id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "But the answer of his people was nothing but," [meaning] the people of Lot, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
His saying, the Exalted: "that they said, 'Kill him or burn him.'"
17235 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, ‘Amr ibn Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi: Then Abraham came to his people and began to invite his people and warn them. So they imprisoned him in a house and gathered firewood for him, to the extent that a woman would fall ill and say, "If Allah heals me, I will certainly gather firewood for Abraham." When they gathered it and accumulated much firewood, to the extent that a bird would pass over it and burn from the intensity of its heat and fire, they proceeded to him and lifted him to the top of the structure. Abraham raised his head to the heaven, and the heaven, the earth, the mountains, and the angels said: "Our Lord, Abraham is burning for Your sake!" He said: "I know better than you about him; if he calls upon you, then aid him." And Abraham said when he raised his head to the heaven: "O Allah, You are the One, the Unique in the heaven, and I am the unique one on the earth; there is no one who worships You other than me: Sufficient for me is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs." Then they threw him into the fire.
